How to decorate with cool kid mural wall ideas
Murals can be a cost-effective way to decorate a kid room. They open up a small space and can provide a three-dimensional visual that regular paint treatments usually can't accomplish.
Race Car Mural
When it comes to murals there is nothing that can't be done from a scene out of your child's favorite nursery rhyme to race cars on a track (click on the image for info).
Murals come in many forms - hand-painted, wallpaper and fabric murals to name a few. You can create your own mural on your child's wall or purchase ready-made versions.
Fabric murals:
Create a movable mural by stretching decorative fabric over a large canvas and hanging it on your child's wall.
Overhead murals:
When creating a customized mural consider the role the ceiling can play. Make your child's mural extra special by extending it overhead.
Carry mural colors throughout:
To tie the whole room together use main colors in the mural throughout the room in fabrics and accessory items.
If you are creating the mural yourself and want your child's mural to be the focal point of her room but don't have a particular theme in mind start by basing the mural on your child's favorite color.
The key is to then add white or off white, and then one or two more accent colors so that the mural harmonizes with the rest of the room. Take your child's furniture and any existing fabrics in the room into consideration when blending colors. Or make your bedding and window treatment selections after your mural is completed.
Create a monochromatic room by using one shade of a favorite color and using slight variations of the same color as accents.

Wall Words - One of My Favorite Kid Mural Wall Ideas
How to Decorate a Kid Room with Decorative Letters, Words and Sayings
Vinyl wall lettering is a great option for parents seeking a hand stenciled look at a fraction of the cost. It's a fun way to achieve a custom, personalized look in a kid room that's already painted.
It's also very easy to apply. Plus with vinyl wall lettering, there's no messy cleanup and it can easily be removed (without damaging your walls) when you want to update the look of your child's room.
When it comes to decorative letters, words and sayings you can either order custom or pre-made vinyl lettering online or create your own using your computer.
If you opt to create your own you'll find websites featuring popular quotes to be a great source of inspiration.
You can place your letters, words or sayings just about anywhere you desire in your child's room. Some great kid room ideas are to put a quote or saying over your child's doorway or along a wall border. Single words like "Imagine", "Dream", "Believe", could be centered on doors or on small sections of walls.

Create Your Own
To create your own decorative letters, words, and sayings all you need is a word processing program like Microsoft Word. Type what your want to put on your walls and then start experimenting with things like starting each word with a capital or using all lower case letters. A great tip for the experimental process is to test out different fonts by highlighting your letter, word, or phrase and then previewing each font to see how it looks.
Select a font and size that works well with the rest of the kid room. Once you've decided on the font and size, print it out and hold it up against your wall to verify that it's actually the right size. Once you've happy with the font and size, take a pair of scissors and cut out your letter, word or each section of your saying just as you want it to appear on the wall of your child's room.
Depending on your level artistic ability or the difficulty of the font, you can either place a piece of carbon behind your print out and position it where you want it on your wall using green painter's tape and trace over the letter(s) with a pen or pencil; or try your hand at free-styling. If you're going to draw out a freehand outline you'll want to affix the letter, word or saying just above the area you'll be drawing on. A second piece of painter's tape positioned just below where you want your saying will give you a straight line to work from. Create your outline in pencil and then use either a paint pen or a permanent marker to finish it off.

How to hang a ready-made kid mural
The upside to hanging most wall murals is that they're as easy put together as most puzzles.
In most cases, ready-made murals come in two to
eight manageable sized panels, can be hung in as little as two hours and come with step-by-step installation instructions.
In addition to some wallpaper paste which may or may not come with the mural kit you will need a pencil, a ruler, a wallpaper brush and a sponge.
*Mix the paste.
*Use your pencil to mark the wall with vertical and horizontal lines.
*Cover the backside of the panels with paste.
*Position the panels, working from top to bottom.
*Use your wallpaper brush to smooth out the panels.
*If necessary use a rule to trim the mural to your exact dimensions.
*Finish by wiping the panels with a damp sponge to remove any excess paste.

Artist Profile: Camille Apicella - Create A Mural
What makes an artist start a kid mural company?
At Create-A-Mural you can tell that everything artist Camille Apicella has done is out of her love for children.
It was after the birth of her fourth child that Camille was inspired to design wallpaper murals for children. She wanted something special for her child's room and while she had the artistic ability to paint a beautiful mural for her daughter, time was a factor. She opted instead to look for a pretty wallpaper mural and found the market didn't offer any.
The seed was planted when she discovered that "pretty" wallpaper murals for children just didn't exist. Her mind was then overflowing with ideas for children's wallpaper murals. She started brain storming and then put her idea's into tangible form.
"I played, prayed and painted until I came up with what you see at Create-A-Mural," says Camille who started her company in 2004.
Through Create-a-Mural.com Camille hopes to inspire parents to create a magical place for their child to grow in.
