What Causes Kidney Stones?
I have been told that kidney stones are caused by drinking too much milk and eating too many foods that contain calcium. Dietary choices can affect kidney stone development.Kidney stones can be due to underlying metabolic conditions, such as renal tubular acidosis, dent's disease, hyperparathyroidism and medullary sponge kidney. Kidney stones are also more common in patients with crohn's disease. There has been some evidence that water fluoridation may increase the risk of kidney stone formation.
Drinking grapefruit juice may increase your risk for developing kidney stones. There is a longstanding belief among the mainstream medical community that Vitamins c and d can increase your risk of kidney stones when you take more than the daily recommendations. Levels of calcium in the diet may also affect your risk of kidney stones, which may be based on little science. Although some individual recent studies have found a relationship. There is no clear relationship between excess ascorbic acid intake and kidney stone formation. Cystinuria and hyperoxaluria are two other rare, inherited metabolic disorders that often cause kidney stones.
People who are not very active may also have problems with kidney stones. Most people who stay well hydrated and eat a balanced diet will not develop a kidney stone. Others who have one or more risk factors for kidney stones must actively control their diet to prevent kidney stones. In particular, people who have had a kidney stone will most likely form additional stones unless preventive measures are taken. Research has shown that kidney stones can be prevented by making modest changes in diet.
The most common cause of kidney stones is not drinking enough water.
