Do today's kids play games if they don't have a cord or remote? Sure! You just have to get them interested and involved in the fun.

If you are throwing a birthday party for your child, don't feel you have to plan elaborate or expensive games. This will only stress you out and kids are some of the easiest crowds to please!

You don't have to go out to buy the latest Wii game just so the kinds will have something to do. Make your own fun.

Board Games

The old board games that you remember from yesterday are still fun. Break out a game of Twister. Now there's electronic Twister, too, but the old one is just as fun.

Many of the kids at the party may never have played it. It can be a really good way to get everyone up and enthusiastic.

Pin the Tail on the Donkey

This game is fun because now it's a classic. See if you can find an old version of it on eBay and then make a big deal over the prizes. If you've got tweens, they may roll their eyes until they see that you're giving away iTunes gift cards or other tempting prizes. They don't have to be expensive, but offer some gifts for kids they'll be excited about.

If you're having a theme party, you can make up your own version like Pin the Nose on Rudolph, Pin the Tiara on the Princess, Pain the Tail on the Puppy, etc.

Create your own - something!

Kids love to create and it can be anything at all. You can have them play with modeling clay, paint piggy banks, make moon sand creations, or decorate pre-baked cookies for kids. If there's food involved, they'll want to participate.

Your game can really be an activity that just naturally flows from the party. Try to avoid games or activities where one child's creation is judged against another. That makes it competitive and someone will most likely leave feeling badly.

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are always fun. If you can, have it outside. If it's inside, make the prizes and objects really enticing. Hide toys inside plastic Easter eggs or in paper bags that are really well-hidden. The better you can disguise the items, the more fun it will be. Number the items so you will know when they have all been found. Then let everyone keep what they have found.

If you have kids that don't find anything, offer "prizes" for the kids who found the least amount. Give them some small birthday party favors like trinkets or treats.

Races that Go!

Races are always fun. Kids still love a good challenge. Have potato sack races, tug of war or egg on a spoon races. Bring back old time camp favorites and you'll find that kids have as great a time as if you'd hired a magician, or even better. They love to cut loose and get loud, so a party where they don't have to be silent and sit quietly is all they need.

Make Their Own Fun

Let Them Loose

Depending on the age group you want to entertain, you may find that just laying low and letting kids make their own fun is the best way to go. Often, kids just like talking and eating chips, birthday cookies and other goodies. They will go home saying they had the best party ever. So don't knock yourself out trying to bring in clowns and jugglers and circus animals. Provide a safe, festive place for them to enjoy themselves and they'll devise their own activities. Often the best activities are those that kids make up themselves anyway.
