TOY STORY 3

Toy Story 3 (2010)

Toy Story 3
[Blu-ray]

Toy Story 3 DVD review
"My review is brief as others have almost said it all. I just want to say that I am 62 years old, and just the thought about the way I felt when I saw this movie in the theatre makes me tear up. It is a nostalgic feeling in a big way. Reminds you of your childhood and those special feelings about growing up. You want to grow up and get on to being an adult in the worst way, but thinking back now your childhood was such a very special time. So fleeting and if we're lucky, such a special time in our lives.I highly recommend the purchase of this movie to add to your collection.I honestly feel that the series should stop here. Perfect right where it was left."

SLEEPING BEAUTY DISNEY

Sleeping Beauty (Two-Disc Platinum Edition) (1959)

Sleeping Beauty
(Two-Disc Platinum Edition)

Sleeping Beauty Disney was the last and most lavish of Walt Disney's animated fairy tales. He told the artists not to hurry and to give him "a moving illustration": The film required almost four and one-half years and one million finished drawings. Instead of the 19th century storybook illustrations that had influenced the look of Snow White and Pinocchio, the artists adapted the flattened perspective and jewel-like colors of 15th century French illuminated manuscripts. The results remain unmatched for sheer visual opulence. However, Sleeping Beauty suffers from a weak story: the vision of an ageless princess slumbering in a vine-shrouded tower was replaced with elements of Snow White and a boy-meets-girl musical. The evil Maleficent and the three Good Fairies (Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather) dominate the film, rather than Princess Aurora and Prince Philip. Sleeping Beauty was originally released in 70mm, and the Blu-ray edition restores the film to its original splendor. (Many earlier releases trimmed the wide-screen images and/or muted the glowing palatte.) The Bonus DVD looks good on a flat screen monitor, but it pales in comparison to the richness of the Blu-ray. In addition to the commentaries and a making-of documentary, the set includes myriad extras that vary widely in quality. Nostalgia buffs will enjoy the recreation of the old Sleeping Beauty's Castle attraction in Disneyland, and the TV program "Four Artists Paint One Tree" provides a welcome showcase for key talents from the film. But the CG animation of the dragon and the voice imitations of the Good Fairies fail to capture the magic of the originals in the "Dragon Encounter"; the "Maleficent's Challenge Game"--a hi-tech Twenty Questions--sounds only vaguely like the redoubtable sorceress. THE BEAUTY and THE BEAST

Beauty and the Beast (Special Platinum Edition) (1991)

Beauty and the Beast
(Special Platinum Edition)

Beauty and the Beast DVD - Special Platinum Edition Beauty and the Beast remains the yardstick by which all other animated films should be measured. It relates the story of Belle a bookworm with a dotty inventor for a father; when he inadvertently offends the Beast a prince whose heart is too hard to love anyone besides himself Belle boldly takes her fathers place imprisoned in the Beasts gloomy mansion. Naturally Belle teaches the Beast to love. What makes this such a dazzler besides the amazingly accomplished animation and the winning coterie of supporting characters the Beasts mansion is overrun by quipping dancing household items is the array of beautiful and hilarious songs by composer Alan Menken and the late lamented lyricist Howard Ashman.

PETER PAN DVD

Peter Pan (2-Disc Platinum Edition) (1953)

Peter Pan
(2-Disc Platinum Edition)

Peter Pan DvD
" The children in the Darling family love story about Peter Pan. So naturally when he shows up one night looking for his missing shadow, they're thrilled to go back with him to Never Land. There, they face Indians and "the world's most famous crook," Captain Hook. Will they survive their adventures with the boy who never wants to grow up?
I have always had a fascination with this story. As a kid I remember checking the Disney picture book version out of the library week after week. When I finally got to see it, I was enthralled. There is just something magical about the story. It's partially the coming together of all the boyhood adventures in one place. Mermaids, Indians, and Pirates? What more could any boy want? And, of course, the ability to fly. The "You can fly" sequence over London is one of my all time favorites. The whole movie really is animated very well with a story that movies quickly from place to place with lots of humor to keep everyone entertained and gorgeous animation of the fanciful Never Land.
This special edition is worth tracking down. The picture (original full frame) is sharp and the surround sound is very nice. Extras include a documentary on the making of the movie and a promotional theatrical featurette from the original release. The "audio commentary" is unique. Hosted by Roy Disney, it consists of selections from interviews of the voice talent, live action models, animators, and animation historians. While not your usual commentary, it's fascinating stuff and well worth a listen. Finally, there's a treasure hunt game and DVD storybook for kids.
This movie still brings a smile to my face and probably always will. Maybe my friends are right when they say I love this movie so much because I always wanted to be Peter Pan. "

TANGLED

Tangled (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (2010)

Tangled
(Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Tangled (2010)

"MY ALL TIME FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIEGrammy, Papa, Mom & Dad, plus the 2-yr-old girl and 4-yr-old boy all thought this was THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR! Our little girl actually cried softly when the handsome Eugene/Flynn seemed to be dying. Both the two-year-old and the four-year-old sat wide-eyed and mesmerized from start to finish. We raved about it all the way back home & on into the evening. What a testament to the power of these magnetic characters and this fascinating story to draw viewers of all ages into the action. Despite the classic nature of the story there were numerous unexpected twists, turns and surprises.Lot's of sweetness, yet it was never smarmy or corny. Very funny! We did lots of laughing out loud.I was struck anew with each scene at the creativity and the intelligence of the plot, of the genuine humanness of the characters' movements and expressions, of the wit and wisdom woven throughout the story, and of the overall quality & striking beauty of the picture as a whole. Also of importance, there was nothing inappropriate for children, yet we adults, (men & women, old and young) found this story charming, thrilling and utterly absorbing in every way.I'm ordering Tangled right now because I can't wait to own it, and to watch it again & again"!
