A Kid’s Guide to Healthy Eating

Ranked #6,306 in Education, #146,832 overall

Education plus Fun = #1

Educating children about healthy choices in food is the first step in helping them maintain a healthy lifestyle. This unit study is a collaboration between myself, an experienced home educator and my friend Kellee, an experience nutritional consultant. Both of us feel strongly about helping children learn the best way possible so we have included facts and fun to help children learn about healthy eating.

Where does food come from

Food keeps you alive, healthy and strong. It gives you energy and makes you grow. But where does food come from?
There are many types of food, some come from farms where it is grown. Some come from animals, either produced by animals or the animal itself. Some foods are manufactured (made in factories).

Rice, wheat and corn make up nearly half of all our food.

How Does Our Body Use Food?

Food is broken down by your body in a process called digestion. Food goes from your mouth, into your stomach, through your intestines and then any waste not absorbed by your body goes out of your body!

Calories are how energy from food is measured. Calories are not bad, they are what is needed to fuel your body. A balance of the right foods to build the energy, and exercise to burn off the extra will keep you healthy.

P.S. What is The Homeschool Club?

THE HOMESCHOOL CLUB is real parents and kids sharing their best resources for great homeschooling. Each day we celebrate learning by opening doors to a world of creativity, knowledge and discovery. In the car, at the kitchen sink, and down by the frog pond - the whole world is our classroom and we explore it with creative projects, games, and activities. This club is a place to share, organize, and discuss how and what we learn in the world. Make a free page to tell your own homeschooling story and share your favorite resources. We can't wait to hear from you!
