Introduce a Child to Something New Every Month

There are some really amazing magazine subscriptions available for children these days. I get several of them for my 4 kids and we all enjoy pouring through them. It's a battle to see who gets to read them first! Magazine subscriptions make great gifts for the kids in your life (we always have a few on our wish lists)!

My Top Ten

Plus, some honorable mentions.

At one point or another, we've had subscriptions to all of these. I've put them in to a handy-dandy top ten list with the rough ages they're appropriate for.

Number 10

Dogs For Kids

This is a great magazine for dog-loving families with care tips, fun stuff, and lots of pictures that children love. Appropriate for all ages, but mostly for 6-14 year-olds.It's geared to either boys or girls.

Going Green

Worried about wasting paper? Magazines can be recycled by many local paper recyclers, can be kept and used later for collage crafts (we do a LOT of these), or donated to pretty much anywhere that has a waiting room. Dr.'s offices, hospitals, schools, and other places are happy to take them off your hands!!

Number 8

Highlights

A classic. This magazine has been around for YEARS. My 3 girls never got in to it much, but my 9-year-old son has loved it since he was about 4. Best for ages 4-10ish.

Number 7

Discover Kids

A great choice for science and technology-minded kids. The only reason that this one doesn't rate higher with us is that it's a bit too simplistic for it's targeted age group. Around ages 8-10 is probably appropriate.

Lady Bug, Spider and Your Big Back Yard were my kid's favorites. No one in my family ever liked Highlights.

Your Big Back Yard is great for Beginning Readers with it's limited vocabulary and large print.

good site! Thought I'd mention - our local kids attractions (zoo, aquarium) send out free kid-friendly magazines with membership. Also, scouts membership includes good free magazines. Sounds like you have fun with your kids!
