Kids & Money

 

The purpose of this lens is to teach our children about personal finance, as well as to discuss various aspects of raising children, like buying clothes and funding college.

We can run the gamut of teaching financial literacy, financial planning for youngsters, savings accounts, allowances, and anything you'd like to touch on.

If you would like me to write about anything in particular, just make a comment in the Guestbook below and I'll do my best to address your request.

Feature Post 

A Semi-regular Post About Kids & Money

This, being the initial Feature Post of the Kids & Money lens, will be a brief introduction of all of the topics that we'll cover. We will run the gamut of teaching little kids about money, how to write a check and balance a checking account, how to get a first credit card, where to go for financial services. We'll cover teens and money, too, as they have special needs (cell phones, car, insurance, and "unforeseen" expenses.

Children are treated a little differently under the tax code, too, so we'll touch on that.

We'll get the straight scoop from experts in the field, moms and dads, grandparents, and teachers.

Finally, we'll hear from some kids about their perspectives on money.

We can do great things here. Let's commit to getting involved so that we can ensure that our children are more successful than we are and that they don't experience the same set backs we've had.

One of the things, amongst many, unfortunately, that our school system fails at miserably, is teaching kids about personal finance. I wish that I had known about some of the things we'll learn here when I was 15.

So, let's get to it! Whatever you want to discuss -- tell me in the Guestbook below.

    People, it's our money! Let's make sure the government spends our tax dollars prudently and according to our collective wishes.

    We need better education, healthcare, infrastructure (roads, bridges, shipping channels, etc.), and we need to shore up Medicare and Social Security.
