Things I Remember as a 90's Kid
I love a bit of nostalgia, remembering all of the TV shows and toys of my childhood. Everybody thinks their childhood TV shows were the best, and I'm no different - without doubt, the 90s WERE the best!
So if you were born in the 80s and grew up in the 90s, then I hope you will remember a few things I have listed on this page, and have fun walking down memory lane. Seems odd now that we'd never heard of Facebook or MySpace, we didn't have the internet or a mobile phone for most of our younger years (I got my Nokia 3210 when I was 11 and played Snake all day!), we had cassettes and VHS tapes not CDs and DVDs, and the Nintendo was the games console of our dreams. Those were the days...

Nostalgia for 90's Kids
- I wore jelly sandals.
- Everybody supported Man Utd, even with no interest in football.
- Every boy in my first year of secondary school had curtains.
- Adidas 3-stripe tracksuits were everywhere and the sporty look was IN. I had a pair with poppers down the side which my brother would pull apart in public!
- I wore leggings with elastic stirrups at the bottom.
- I owned many tacky slogan t-shirts and strange lightweight trousers with wraparound skirts.
- Every girl shopped at Tammy Girl.
- Every girl used 'Impulse' body spray and gave/received many 'Impulse' sets as gifts.
- I took a cartoon plastic lunchbox to school.
- I owned at least 30 Goosebumps books.
- Light-up trainers were cool.
- I had many brightly coloured jelly bracelets which I used to buy from Claire's Accessories.
- I used to have an inflatable chair, sofa and bag.
- Puffa jackets were everywhere, as were waistcoats/gilets.
- Space Raiders were only 10p.
- Little girls wore hair mascaras and lots of glittery, bright mascaras, eyeshadows and lipsticks.
- I had lots of chunky scrunchies in every colour and hair bands with my name on (written in glitter of course).
- Mr Motivator was the best aerobics instructor ever.
- I had a pen pal.
- I tried to tape songs off the Radio when the Top 40 came on.
- Cans of Coke were 25p and so were chocolate bars and crisps.
- I crimped my hair, and for a large portion of my childhood, had a huge thick fringe.
- Read many Roald Dahl books, plus the first 2 Harry Potter books, not knowing how successful they would get.
- Fruit Salads and Black Jacks!
- I actually owned a pair of neon orange trainers and a pair of neon green trainers. I wore these with Adidas trackies, naturally.
- Nerds, Push Pops and Fun Dip were my favourite sweets.
- McDonalds Happy Meals, with little wind-up toys of the Hamburglar etc. I went to a couple of birthday parties on the double decker McDonalds bus too!
- We only had 4 TV channels to choose from.
- Brown lipstick.
- Spin Art and Spirographs.
- Mystic Meg.
- Mood rings.
- Where's Wally?
- Tizer and Tango (you've been Tango'd!)
- Sunny D.
- Fred the weatherman on This Morning.
- Silly Putty.
- It was the decade of gunge, with a lot of kid's TV shows dropping gunge on their contestants.
- Lots of groovy discos where YMCA, Macarena and Saturday Night had to be played.

More 90's Nostalgia
- The first computer the family owned was an MS DOS with a black screen and we had to type in commands. The only things we could do on there were play Big Red Racing and go on a really slow flight simulator.
- We finally got a new computer with Windows, and I used Encarta for ALL of my homework.
- At school, we used to play 2 educational games on the PC: 'Gadgets and Gizmos', and 'Where in The World is Carmen SanDiego?'
- Eventually we got dial-up Internet and it was very exciting, even though we had to wait half an hour for a screen to appear, and get off the Internet when someone wanted to make a phone call.
- Party bags.
- Getting my first mobile phone - a Nokia 3210 - and everyone standing around playing Snake thinking they look very cool!
- Rub-on tattoos, often free with Mizz or other magazines.
- Lucky Charms cereal which included fun shaped marshmallow pieces.
- Screwball ice-creams with chewing gum at the bottom.
- Iced gems.
- Choc Ices.
- Pom-pom bear crisps.
- Collecting little turtle ornaments out of Kinder Eggs.
- When The Simpsons was on before Fresh Prince on BBC2 and had NO ad break!
- Ready Salted Chipsticks.
- 'Lunchables' for my packed lunches. I can actually still taste them.
- The fear about the millennium and how it could be the end of the world, or the millennium bug will strike all electrical items. I went to a millennium party dressed all in silver - it was fun!
- 'Talk to the hand'.
- I had a neon coloured bum bag.
- Strap-on roller skates.
- Proper sports days with races including the egg and spoon race and the bean bag relay, whilst everyone else sat around making daisy chains and eating ice pops.
- Fibre-optic lights.
- Collecting the caps off the old Smarties tubes because they all had a different letter on.
- Passing on the Lurgie around the playground.
- I didn't think I'd ever get used to Opal Fruits being called Starburst.
- Little blue packets in Walkers crisps which meant you'd won a prize.
- Magic shoelaces which were springy.
- 'I know you are, you said you are, but what am I?'
- Scratch and sniff stickers.
- Played conkers at school after soaking them in vinegar.
- I had loads of gel pens.
- I used Tip-Ex on everything before corrector pens came out.
- The food! Turkey twizzlers, Sunny D, crispy pancakes, potato smilies and this stuff too.
90's Music in the UK
- Take That. Robbie left in 1995 to have a string of great hits including 'Angels', and Take That split up in 1996 and many girls cried.
- Another Level
- N*Sync
- Backstreet Boys
- The beginning of Girl Power everywhere - the phenomemon that was the Spice Girls. The Union Jack dress Ginger Spice wore became popular with little girls.
- Vengaboys
- Steps
- Oasis.
- I had a cassette tape with classics on such as 'Mr Vain', 'What is love' and 'Rhythm is a dancer'.
- Blur.
- Everyone knows the dance to Saturday Night and the Macarena.
- Britney Spears.
- Christina Aguilera.
- Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch.
- Shaggy - Angel, It wasn't me, Hot Love etc.
- Boyzone.
- Ricky Martin - She Bangs, Livin' La Vida Loca.
- Lots of great dance music.
- Travis.
- Coldplay.
- Sum 41, Nirvana, Limp Bizkit and Slipknot were popular amongst moshers and skaters.
- B*Witched.
- Shania Twain.
- Billie Piper.
'Sonic' on SEGA
I used to love playing this game on our SEGA games console. I think I'll always have a place in my heart for retro games and graphics :-)

- SM:TV with Ant & Dec and 'Wonky Donkey'! It was actually worth getting up early on Saturdays for shows like this.

- Yo-yos, with tricks such as the Cradle and Around the World.
- Fold-up scooters.
- Furbies.
- Beanie Babies.
- Care Bears.
- My Little Pony.
- Polly Pocket.
- SEGA games consoles with Sonic the Hedgehog games.
- Super Nintendo console (NES), where you had to blow dust out of the games if they didn't work at first. Super Mario was the best! We also had Street Fighter, Lion King, Chip 'n Dale, and Duck Hunt where you use an orange gun attachment.

- Every girl seemed to have a Baby G watch at one point.

Spice Girls
Sporty Spice, Ginger Spice, Posh Spice, Scary Spice and Baby Spice took over the world with a string of fun hits including 2 become 1, Wannabe, Say you'll be there, Stop, Who do you think you are and Spice up your life. You most probably knew the dance moves yourself :-)
