Buying a Tooth Fairy Pillow
The tooth fairy is a popular character in children's lives at a young age. This is especially true in Great Britain where the tale originates and has become increasingly well known across North America. This page details a variety of tooth fairy pillows which will add some excitement and fun to a process that can sometimes be a bit scary to little kids. A little friendly fairy is on hand to offer some reassurance and a coin or two.
Origins of the Tooth Fairy
Where the tale comes from
The tooth fairy fable, like many customs in America, originates in Europe. Many centuries ago it was thought sensible to bury baby teeth in the ground such as in a garden or nearby field. People considered the ritual a right of passage and also were fearful of superstitions which surrounded the event. It was believed that if a witch were to find a baby tooth, the child who it belonged to would fall under an evil curse. By burying the tooth, parents hoped this would be prevented.

Development of the Tooth Fairy Story
From Europe to North America
Children being naturally inquistive wanted to know where their old teeth were being put. Thus, stories and legends were born in which the parents would explain to their young ones that a kind and generous spirit or animal was taking them and replacing them with a treat. In England, the tooth fairy developed into a popular story and this was transferred by immigrants to North America where it started to gain traction in the early 1900s.
Parents of course removed the teeth from under the pillow whilst the child was asleep and replaced it with a coin or candy. The pouch theme in this story comes from the parent's desire to keep a tooth or two as a loving reminder of their child's rite of passage, in a drawer or keepsake box.
