Mom I'm Bored! I have NOTHING to do! : Activities For Kids

As a busy mom of two, these are the very words that make me cringe the most and make me want to run & hide in the first closet I can find. To me the sound of these words is equivalent to the sound of fingernails slowly going down a chalkboard which at first brings me to a halt and then sends me into a mad panic in search of some awesome & entertaining activities for kids to do before the meltdown begins!

The words "Mom I'm bored! I have nothing to do" = me dumb founded

What? Have NOTHING to do you say? I find it really hard to believe you can't find ANYTHING to do with that room of yours full of toys, books, movies, video games and etc and etc and etc...It seems that the days are gone when kids were able to entertain themselves with a stick and the great outdoors.

Here you will find some great ideas for fun activities to do with your kids! Best wishes and good luck to you all out there in parentland!

Fun Activities To Do When Your Kids Say They Are Bored

Arts & Crafts

Arts & crafts are at the top of my list of activities that I know will keep my kids happy and occupied. They LOVE to paint, draw, cut, paste, and do anything that's crafty. So when the weather is bad outside and I need to find something quik for them to do, I will pull out out my giant box of craft supplies that I put together and let them go! Doing arts & crafts is a great way for my kids to be creative and express themselves and it allows them to release alot of stored up energy as well. It's fun seeing what kids can create so why not create your own craft box that you can pull out in case of an emergency.

Sculpting With Dough Or Clay

Try this fun dough recipe!

This is a great dough recipe given to me by a friend of mine when my 12 year old was little that kids can sculpt and play with. It is really easy to make and smells sooo good that even I have fun playing with it! But don't worry if your kid takes a little taste like my 3 year old does because it's made of all edible ingredients- I wouldn't recommend eating it but if they do it won't hurt them- maybe just a little bellyache. This dough also stores really nice in a ziplock bag and will last for a long time. I also like how soft the dough is making it really easy for little hands to work with. You can also double this recipe for a larger batch if you want. And don't worry it isn't sticky either so have fun!

Painting & Drawing

My Kids Love To Paint & Draw!

This was my daughter's first "real" painting on canvas with acrylic paint.

Both of my kids enjoy painting and drawing and it's one of the easiest ways I know to keep them busy. I just give them some paint, colored pencils or crayons, and a stack of paper and let them go. I bought my 12 year old her very first "professional" art set that she had been asking for this last Christmas along with a set of 10- 8X12 canvas so she could paint "real" pictures as she had put it. The set is really nice and comes complete with everything needed to paint and draw with, except the paper and canvas of course. My daughter was so excited that she had finally gotten the art set she asked for, that it took her at least a good month to actually paint a picture because she was so afraid to make a mistake and mess up her new canvas.

In last decade I learned boredom is great privilege. I try to explain the kids why I think so and hope they will understand before it is too late. Because one day they will find out the truth: day only has 24 hours!

Great resource for suggestions for 'bored' kids. When my 'kids' were small, I had a really hard time understanding the line 'Mom, I'm bored!' because I have never been 'bored' my entire life, even as a child. There isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want to do. But today's kids are different -- times change. Good suggestions for those 'boring' days! :)
