How to Build a 4 Part Kids Bank to Teach Wealthy Habits

Welcome! You're probably a parent who recently visited my How to Teach Wealth Habits to Your Kids  or How to Use Kids' Giving Banks and Tithing Banks Squidoo lens and wants to know about the 4-part bank for your kids.  Great!  You're in the right place.

[If you didn't come by way of my other "Kids & Money" lenses, then this lens will make alot more sense to you if I clued you in that my e-book The Kids' Bank Book is about teaching wise money management to your children with fun, ease, smiles and laughter.  One of the tools in the book is a 4-part "Giving Bank," "Tithing Bank," or "Abundance Bank."]

Let's get to it!

What's in a 4-part "Giving Bank" or "Abundance Bank"?

[Warning: These categories are according to me ;) ]

A "Giving Bank" or "Abundance Bank" or anyother name for a 4-part bank usually has an aspect of donations to it.
  1. MORE MONEY part
  2. Spending part
  3. Donations part
  4. Christmas/Holiday/Birthday Gifts FOR Others part

How to Make a 4-part "Giving Bank" that Works

Here are the basics - get the finer points (and the why and wherefores) in The Kids' Bank Book. [I'm an attorney - it's illegal for us to write a short sentence. If these are the basics, can you imagine what the DETAILED version is like?!]
  1. Get 4 coffee cans (yes, I know Starbucks and DunkinDonuts don't sell coffee in cans, so maybe a short oatmeal container would work) for each child
  2. Put a large slot in the top of each
  3. Put all of your kid-friendly paints, markers, glitter, glue, scissors, stickers, inkstamps, construction paper, felt, yarn, ribbon and pipecleaners (and 4 containers) onto your kitchen table.
  4. Invite your children to the table
  5. STAND BACK - WAAAAAY BACK
  6. After the children have fallen to the floor exhausted from artistic expression, let the artwork dry
  7. Get a shallow box bottom to hold each set of four cans
  8. Ask each child to write the Bank's name on each can (or on a paper and glued to each can) -
  9. More Money
  10. Spending
  11. Christmas/Holiday/Birthday Gifts
  12. Donations
  13. Insert an envelope into each can to hold the dollar bills neatly
  14. Smile - you and your children have done well :)
  15. Think to yourself, hmmmm, I bet they'll embrace their own creation more than that lifeless plastic sub-divided plastic thing that I almost bought and stuck onto their bookcase ;)

4-part and 3-part banks for kids

These 3-part banks and 4-part banks for kids are a good start. Do they have drawbacks? Sure. Are they perfect? No. But, they're a really good start & their imperfections can only be overcome by making your own 4-part bank. So, unless you're inclined to get real crafty this weekend, get one of these. I prefer the LearningCents one because of the large containers and slots and easy-to-open features.

The Must Read Book for Parents to learn how to have Money Work for You

Kiyosaki is a great story teller, which makes this book super easy to read. Learn what the rich teach their children that the middle class and poor don't. Remember, you can't teach concepts that you don't know.

This wealth-building approach is what is missing from our children's education. It's up to US (as parents) to teach and guide our children on how to build wealth, not debt. Don't let your kids follow the herd. Teach them now while they're young. And, this great book by an almost-contemporary is a great help to Mom and Dad while teaching those lessons.
