Gingerbread Cookies
This great gingerbread cookie recipe is still a favorite of my kids and now my grandkids always want to make them when they visit for the holidays. Our favorite cookie cutter is in the shape of a horse and so we make lots of gingerbread horses for our holiday.Gingerbread Cookies
1/2 c. softened butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. dark molasses
1/4 c. water
2 1/2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. allspice
Mix ingredients in order given. Cover and chill for 2 to 3 hours. Using about 1/3 of the dough at a time(and returning rest to the fridge) roll out to 1/4" thickness and cut out desired shapes. Bake at 375 degress for 10 to 12 minutes.
Decorate with a stiff frosting made from powdered sugar and milk (or canned vanilla frosting) by putting a scoop into a zip lock bag. Snip a corner of the bag and you have a great decorator bag that is easy for little hands to use.
