Halloween is so great - I have always loved it, ever since I was a kid!
I remember quite a few of my costumes - and I definitely remember the weeks leading up to Halloween - ahh, the sweet anticipation...
See, I am a dramatic type and I thoroughly enjoy dressing up and 'becoming' another person/creature/animal etc.
And I LOVED candy! Oh, how I loved all of the candy!
Oh! Another thing that I loved about Halloween as I became an older child - getting scared - I LOVED LOVED LOVED haunted houses! And actually, I still do!
One holiday with so many different things to love - you just can't beat it!

Keep Your Kids Safe While Trick-or-Treating
Wear bright colors
Both parents and kids should wear brightly colored clothing. If you are wearing a costume that is dark in color, apply reflective tape to parts of your clothes or shoes. (Many communities now enforce a trick-or-treating curfew to prevent children from roaming after dark. Be sure to check for any curfew rules that may apply to your community.)
Be sure your child can see
Smaller children love store-bought costumes that come complete with a facemask. Before you leave the house, double-check to make sure your child can see through the eyeholes of the mask. This will help to prevent them from tripping, falling or running into something while they trick-or-treat.
Obey the rules
If you are trick-or-treating in a city, remember to follow traffic safety rules. Always look both ways before crossing the street. Stay on the sidewalks and walk at a normal pace.
Visit familiar places only
Take your children to trick-or-treat at places where you know people. Try not to take them to strange houses or places that look unsafe. Remember the "never talk to strangers," rule!
Inspect all candy
This is a commonly known rule of trick-or-treating, and yet so many parents don't follow it. Parents should remove all unwrapped candy from buckets (cupcakes, homemade candy, etc.). There are just too many dangers to eating unwrapped candy or treats to take a chance with your child. Look for holes in plastic wrappers as well.
Simple Halloween treats you Can Make in Minutes
Do you have some Halloween Cookie Cutters? That's all you'll need to make these first three fun and memorable Halloween treats.
Terrifying Tortilla Chips: Start with some flour tortillas and spray a bit of canola oil on them. Sprinkle parmesan cheese or cinnamon and sugar on them. Then cut fun shapes out of the tortillas with a bat, ghost or pumpkin cookie cutter. Put the shapes into the oven for a crispy treat.
Spooky sandwiches: Make your favorite sandwich. Peanut butter and jelly works just fine. Then, using a cookie cutter, press hard into the sandwich and you'll get a spooky treat. If you use a pumpkin shape cookie cutter, add licorice or candy corn to make eyes and nose on a jack-o-lantern face.
Creepy Cheese and Cold Cuts: Buy packaged cheese (the kind that you peel the plastic off). Also, buy some cold-cuts. Using a cookie cutter, make spooky shapes. Present the cheese and cold cuts on a platter as an appetizer - or have a sandwich smorgasbord and allow your guests to use the creepy cheese to make their own sandwiches.
Here are a few more last-minute ideas for Halloween fun.
Wicked Witch Fingers: Do you have some dough and almonds? Believe it or not, you can make witch fingers. Just stretch out the dough into a "finger-shape" including a knuckle. Then, take the almond and press it into the end to make the fingernail. You can experiment with different colors to make witch fingers creepier. "Paint" the fingernail with food coloring (grey or black is perfect), or make the dough a creepy green color. Oooh%u2026 spooky!
Green Anything: Take your favorite foods and add a drop of green food coloring to them. Are you in the mood for French toast? Make it green. How about pudding? Make it green. You can even serve green milk with your cookies. You'll be the coolest mom on the block.
