Kids Love to Read!

Ranked #1,594 in Parenting & Kids, #49,289 overall

All kids can love to read!

I know many kids that love to read, but, I also know there are a great many out there, who think it is just not for them.

I've run across far too many of them - and it breaks my heart!

I think that many of these children can be shown how enjoyable reading really is.  I'm not talking about 'as an assignment' - "Jimbob - go in your room right now and read three chapters!"

No, not like that!

So Jimbob loves racecars, eh?  What a mountain of wonderful books we can find him on racecars!

Reading is such a wonderful, private place I go to - like sanctuary - in the Series of Unfortunate Events, right?

And it saddens me to think that someone is without that, least of all a child.

I could gab on and on about this all day - but, the main thing I would like to say on the subject is....

                           READING ROCKS!

Writing Is Important, Too

child writingNicole Dean has written an article with some cool ideas to get your child excited about writing! I know a lot of kids are reluctant to write - my boys were when they were little. I tried different things to get them excited about writing, but, we definitely struggled with it. I love these ideas suggested by Nicole. I could've used this article several years ago! I hope it proves helpful for you!

Encouraging Your Child to Write
Written by Nicole Dean

How in the world do you get your child to write? This is the battle cry of many parents. A lot of imagination, with a little bribery (or praise) is all you need to get your child writing. We'll supply the imagination. The praise and bribery is all up to you.

Grocery List: Enlist your child's help in making the grocery list. Walk around the kitchen, naming things you need from the store. Ask your child to write everything down. Your child can also suggest foods you might need from the store and he can add those, too.

Old Checks: If you've recently switched banks and have checks that need to be destroyed, first let your child play with them. Give him some envelopes and he can pretend to pay bills - while getting him to do some writing. Of course, destroy the checks afterwards. If you do not have checks available, you can just give your child some blank pieces of paper and he can make his own checks.

When I was little, I definitely enjoyed reading. In fact, one of my favorite things was to go and visit the library.

Since they were young my children have heard, "If you love to read you can learn anything." So in my novel I had a war chief declare about his tribe, "We discovered if we read we can learn anything, so we decided to try and learn everything."

Reading is a pleasure that intensifies as you get more involved. Nurturing a love of reading is an invaluable gift. Thank you for this lens.

I love to read, my husband loves to read and both of our children love to read! Books are my number one gift to give and receive so I am a firm believer in giving lots and lots of books to children.
