How to Choose Kids Party Themes
Here are some tips on choosing a kids party theme for your child's birthday. Remember, though, you aren't just limited to birthday celebrations. Throw a seasonal party for Halloween or Easter, organise a summer garden party, or, if you've got no other good excuse for a party, make like Alice and the Mad Hatter, and throw an Unbirthday Party!

-
What is your child into? Think about their favourite TV shows, books, films and so on. Is there something they are really into right now, that would make a great party theme?
-
What is the occasion? While practically any theme will suit a birthday, other celebrations might be more limiting. For example, an Easter party would suit something rabbit-themed, such as Peter Rabbit, while a Scooby-Doo party would be excellent for Halloween, with all its ghosts and ghoulies!
-
What season is it? If you're holding a party in the summer, you have the option of holding a party outdoors. What themes would best suit this idea? Similarly, a winter party could happily accommodate a snow or ice theme.
-
Is the party for both boys and girls? A princess party wouldn't be very appealing for boy guests, so if you are planning on having both sexes at your party, either choose an appropriate theme, or combine themes, such as a princess and pirate party!
-
Most importantly, does your child know what they would like? Talk to them about what they are into right now and whether they have any ideas for their party. What would they like to do? How would they like to be involved in the preparations?

Choosing Kids Party Supplies
What Do I Need for my Kids Party?

It can be confusing when organising a party for the first time - there are so many items available! What to choose?
Generally, if you are holding a fully themed party with all the trimmings, then you will need the following:
-
Party plates, cups and napkins
(You'll need at least two plates for each child - for savory and sweet. To save money you could use plain plates for the grown-ups, and for the serving plates, in matching colours, or buy enough themed plates for everything) -
Tablecloth
-
Table Centerpiece
-
Fun party accessories like bubbles or party blow-outs
-
Party Hats
-
Party Bags/Favor Boxes or a Pinata
-
Party Favors
-
Banners and Streamers
-
Balloons
-
Invitations
-
Thank You Cards
-
Supplies and materials for party games, crafts and other activities
-
Prizes for games
-
Costumes if it is fancy dress
