HELP AFRICA FRIENDS
An open space for discussions on issues and solutions for the development of Africa.
There's nothing so rewarding like sponsoring someone who later attains the goals invested on him and he inturn does same to another;for short,a goodwill social network,where people help others to help themselves and others.This should be wonderful,no matter the modalities used to attain required results.This is my dream for my people and the world at large!
Fetching RSS feed... please stand bychild education in kumba-cameroon
I'll like to present and hail this example from another town which has given some light to some lucky children and i wish i could emulate this move to bring to light our project.This is a resumee of the Jamadianle School powered by these women,diane and leslie;
Jamadianle began in May 2002 as a nursery school with 11 children in a one-room schoolhouse. Since its inception by Diane van Nestleroy and Leslie Fox, the school has grown considerably: in 2006-2007, 465 students were registered and 16 classrooms were being utilized. Every year the school adds another class and will continue to do so until the oldest students reach class 6.
Whereas government-run schools in Cameroon focus primarily on memorization and repetition, United Action for Children's (UAC's) nursery and primary school is unique because it values child-centred education. This means that class sizes are small (no more than 25 students per class), corporal punishment is forbidden, and teachers give individual attention. By focusing on these areas, Jamadianle is attempting to embrace new pedagogical methods that encourage a deeper understanding of the material. As a result of this approach, Jamadianle students are able to learn more advanced material than their peers in the public system.

- Welcome to the Help Africa Group. A few of our other lenses are about organizations that build schools. You may be able to network with some of them.

TACKLING GLOBAL POVERTY
Take 24 to Tackle 24/7 Global Poverty on Oct. 17Global poverty is not a static Polaroid shot. It is a shifting phenomenon fed daily by inequality, unfair economic and trade processes, social exclusion and the indifference of a considerable portion of the world's wealthy.
Twenty years after the UN General Assembly designated October 17th as the International Day for Eradication of Poverty, the global imbalances that cause it remain daunting challenges, and international institutions continue to renege on their promises to eradicate the problem.
What has increased in strength and numbers is civil society and citizen action in the fight to eradicate poverty. GCAP -- made up of national campaigns, major international trade unions, faith organisations, human rights organisations, youth groups, women's organisations -- was launched in 2005 at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, and rapidly became the world's largest anti-poverty movement, with organisations representing about 150 million people in over 110 countries.
The Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) is asking all people around the world to STAND UP and SPEAK OUT, to say "No!" to extreme poverty on Oct. 17.

Rome - More than 1 000 migrants have lost their lives trying to reach the European Union so far this year, an Italian monitoring group said Wednesday.
The group, Fortress Europe, said 1 096 migrants had died on their way to an EU country in 2007, including 99 in September alone, based on figures published in the European media.
"At least 10 335 migrants have lost their lives off the European coast since 1988," the group said in a statement.
