Kids Vehicle That Captures The Essence Of Childhood

Pedal cars have been "around the block" for awhile. Believe it or not, these little ride on kids vehicles have been around since the 1890s. They were modeled after the real cars on the road at that time, and manufacturers like GM used they as marketing gimmicks to get mom and dad to buy the real thing. After the turn of the century, and into the Great Depression, they became a plaything that only the very wealthy could afford. Then, in the 1940s all production of pedal cars came to a halt with WWII. All metal production was dedicated to the war efforts and no longer available for the manufacture of these kid's cars.
Prosperity in the 1950s brought production of this kids vehicle back to life. They became available to everyone in all major department stores and even included new features such as chrome detailing, custom paint jobs, working lights and horns, and moveable windshields and ragtops. However, the 1970s brought a new revolutions with the production of plastic kids ride on cars. Production and popularity of the metal pedal car came to an abrupt halt.

I live in Colorado, and as I write this a new statistic just came out that 1 in 4 kids in the state of Colorado is overweight. Wow...that's 25% of our state's population of kids. When I was "younger" I just don't recall weight being a problem with kids, and looking back I think that's because we spend all of our time outdoors, both in winter and in summer. We used our imaginations and got creative by building "forts" and kids cars and playing active outdoor games. And yes, we rode our little pedal toys up and down the streets.

Today, even when kids are outdoors playing they're riding a battery powered kids vehicle which requires zero energy and burns off zero calories. Power wheels and other electric ride on kids cars have a firm grasp on today's children.
