Killswitch Engage

No shortcuts. No compromises. No BS. From their modest beginnings in New England's hardcore scene to their current status as one of the most influential and inspirational forces in modern music, Killswitch Engage have played by these three simple rules. With their new, fourth album, As Daylight Dies, KsE are proving that if you keep playing the game your way, you'll eventually change the rules for everyone else.

History of Killswitch Engage

Killswitch Engage's lineup:
Vocals - Howard Jones
Bassist - Mike D'Antonio
Guitar - Joel Stroetzel
Guitar - Adam Dutkiewic
Drums - Justin Foley
"We never consciously went out of our way to be different," guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz says from the band's home base in Westfield, Massachusetts. " When we started this band, we just wanted to play cool riffs and scream and sing. We liked many different sounds so we tried to incorporate all these rock and pop styles while keeping a good, solid metal mentality." Eleven songs strong, As Daylight Dies isn't just a testament to the band's original vision it's also their strongest fusion of aggression, melody, rock and metal to date.

As Daylight Dies is the fourth studio album by Massachusetts metalcore quintet Killswitch Engage

Released in the US on November 21, 2006

It was subsequently released in the UK on November 20, both through Roadrunner Records. The first single, "My Curse", was released to radio stations on October 30. The album entered at No. 32 on The Billboard 200 album chart, selling roughly 60,000 copies in its first week. It is the first Killswitch Engage album without an instrumental interlude. This record has got some alternative metal influences and they use more singing parts than before.

A re-release of the album was released on August 28, 2007. It contains the four bonus b-sides listed below and three videos including the video for the Dio cover of "Holy Diver"

Holy Diver by Killswitch Engage

Metalcore band Killswitch Engage covers the song on a compilation album entitled High Voltage!: A Brief History of Rock for Kerrang! magazine. They also perform this song in their live shows. The song is in the re-release of the band's As Daylight Dies album, with an accompanying video already released for it. It is KSE's first top 20 single on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Charts and also includes a music video similar to the Dio one.

The End of Heartache is the 2004 album by Killswitch Engage

Released on May 11, 2004

The album is the first to feature vocalist Howard Jones, of the band Blood Has Been Shed, who joined in 2002, replacing Jesse Leach. Drummer Justin Foley, who was in Blood Has Been Shed with Jones, also joined the band, replacing former drummer Tom Gomes, who left the band for personal reasons.

The new lineup played on the 2003 Ozzfest and the MTV2 Headbangers Ball tour. The first recording was the song "When Darkness Falls" appearing on the soundtrack to the 2003 horror film Freddy vs. Jason. The End of Heartache was released on May 11, 2004. The album debuted in the top 40 of the Australian album charts on May 17, 2004 following a successful tour of that country with Anthrax.

The title track was nominated for Best Metal Performance for the 47th Annual Grammy Awards.

Two music videos for "Rose of Sharyn" and "The End of Heartache" were filmed in promotion of the album. "Rose of Sharyn" had the group performing in a sunny desert with blood dripping from dead branches to form words. "The End of Heartache" featured a darkly lit performance with various computer animated imagery with scenes from Resident Evil: Apocalypse dotted throughout. Both videos saw notable airplay on Headbanger's Ball.

In 2005, a special edition of the album was released which contained 6 additional tracks.

The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on December 7, 2007.

Alive or Just Breathing is the second album by Killswitch Engage

The album reached No. 37 on Billboard magazine's "Heatseekers" chart

This is also the final album with vocalist Jesse Leach.
The album's style is best characterized as metalcore, combining both clean and screaming vocals with the melodic dual guitar sounds made popular by bands in the Scandinavian metal scene, the most notable being In Flames. A number of the tracks, including "Fixation on the Darkness" and "Life to Lifeless", also feature the infectious rhythmic dynamic commonly associated with groove metal.

The record is a striking blend of both brutal and melodic sounds. The additional financial resources offered by a major label enabled the band to bring a new richness to the attacking dual-guitar riffs and bottom-heavy rhythm section which characterises its music.

The album's impact was also fuelled by a frenetic and desperate energy. Vocalist Jesse Leach explained: "I want people to feel the urgency and desperation I feel. I want people to stop and think about what's going on instead of walking through life. Hence, the title: are you alive or are you just taking in the air?"
