Contemplative Photography with Kim Manley Ort
The Nature of Photography is the name of my photography business, specializing in contemplative photography workshops (online and in-person), as well as my own artwork.
Photography is a way for me to slow down, reconnect, and really see and appreciate the world around me.
On this page, you will find out about my path to photography and the work that I do.
A Little History

After majoring in Math at the University of Waterloo, I spent seven years in the business world. I never thought of myself as an artist, although I loved to draw when I was young.
My mother gave me a camera and photography book when I graduated from college, and I snapped a lot of photos over the years. Around the age of 40, I became fascinated with Ansel Adams and took my first darkroom photography class.
I WAS HOOKED!
I love, love, love photography and want to share some of that love with you.
What I discovered along the way is that what I love most about photography is the process. Photography can be a meditative and healing practice. This is what I now teach in my workshops.
You can find my work for sale through print on demand sites, mainly Imagekind and Zazzle.
I also write about photography and other things on my blog and on the Squidoo platform. Find out more as you read this page.

Projects
In January 2009 my friend and poet, Norah Oulahen, and I embarked on a collaboration exploring the edges of things. To see our work so far, visit my Imagekind Gallery or the page below.
The Earth Charter in Images

One my current projects is to connect images with the 16 principles of the Earth Charter. To learn more about the Earth Charter, see this page, The Earth Charter and You.
To buy cards or prints, visit my Zazzle store.
The Everything Series
Words and photos that reflect the foundation of everything.
I decided to brainstorm other words that might be considered foundational and, before you know it, I had a long list! I'm sure there are many more that could be added, depending on what is important to a particular person. The next step was to come up with images which reflected the chosen word and, voila, the Everything Series was born.
See the main page written for this series, as well as two spinoffs from this series.
