Kimono Jewelry -- Uber-Trendy

The kimono (literally "something worn") is the national costume of Japan. Originally the word "kimono" referred to all types of clothing, but it has come to mean specifically the full-length traditional garment worn by women, men, and children.

Kimonos are T-shaped, straight-lined robes that fall to the ankle, with collars and wide, full-length sleeves. Traditionally, unmarried women wore a style of kimono called furisode, which have floor-length sleeves, on special occasions. --Wikipedia. One of my favorites for Kimono jewelry is undoubtedly Andrew Pastorino, a New York City based designer, who has been creating original handcrafted jewelry for museum shops, jewelry stores and other high-end retail stores for over a decade. His largest collection of Textile GemsTM are the highly popular Kimono GemsTM.

This particular cuff is from the Blossom and Crane Fanatasy Collection. Vintage kimono textile encased under clear resin enamel on 2" brass cuff. Brass back (on inside of cuff) is also covered with clear resin enamel. Cuff fit is easily adjustable.

I have had an obsession with Japan for many years and it provided me with inspiration for this range. It is a country with a strong sense of tradition and rich past, yet at the same time it is at the fore front of modern technology and has a very strong, and visual, youth culture. I used elements from traditional Kimono fabrics to create patterns which represent the traditions and past. Working with anodised aluminium allows me to apply the patterns using a variety of printing techniques and achieve the bright colours.
