Asian-inspired wearable art jewelry

Have you seen all the kimono jewelry?  The kimono jewelry can be seen as acrylic or laminated, natural fabric over metal, or as anodized aluminum.  There's quite a nice selection of all of these.   One of my favorites is an acrylic ring that is laminated with kimono fabric.  For the most part, each design is unique and unlike department store brands.

My two favorite designers of Kimono jewelry are Andrew Pastorino and Emma Farnworth.  Also, many different indie designers sell kimono jewelry online; you'll find several on Etsy.

Kimono jewelry is truly wearable art with a story behind it.  When you purchase a vintage kimono jewelry item, you're purchasing a bit of history.

What is a kimono anyway???

The kimono (literally "something worn") is the national costume of Japan. Originally the word "kimono" referred to all types of clothing, but it has come to mean specifically the full-length traditional garment worn by women, men, and children.

Kimonos are T-shaped, straight-lined robes that fall to the ankle, with collars and wide, full-length sleeves. Traditionally, unmarried women wore a style of kimono called furisode, which have floor-length sleeves, on special occasions.

Kimono acrylic cuff

One of my favorites for Kimono jewelry is undoubtedly Andrew Pastorino, a New York City based designer, who has been creating original handcrafted jewelry for museum shops, jewelry stores and other high-end retail stores for over a decade. His largest collection of Textile GemsTM are the highly popular Kimono GemsTM.

This particular cuff is from the Blossom and Crane Fanatasy Collection. Vintage kimono textile encased under clear resin enamel on 2" brass cuff. Brass back (on inside of cuff) is also covered with clear resin enamel. Cuff fit is easily adjustable.

Kimono acrylic bangle

This bangle is manufactured in Japan and comes from Kimono Daisy.

The Kimono jewellery is made from Japanese Kimono fabrics, encased in clear acrylic resin. With the different pieces of fabric and different cuts of the material, each piece is truly unique. You won't find two pieces the same.

It is a gorgeous, solid chunky bangle which shows off the kimono fabric beautifully. A real statement piece. It's affordable at $38.00 plus $5.00 S/H.

Kimono acrylic pendant

This beautiful jewelry pendant was £14.95 (approx. US$ 25.96) from Japanya.

Kimono acrylic ring

This beautiful kimono ring was £8.45 (approx. US$ 14.68) from Japanya.

Kimono fabric bracelet

This is SO beautiful! It is a Yumi Chen Designs that is the right price at USD $70.00.

Topaz Floral Japanese Kimono Cloth beads adorned with topaz Swarovski crystals and peach Swarovski pearls. Size: 7 1/2 inches (medium). Clasp: 14kt Gold Filled Toggle.

This bracelet, along with necklaces and earrings, is available in a variety of colors including orange, green, black, blue, purple, teal.

Kimono fabric earrings

These are very pretty vintage kimono fabric button earrings which may or may not still be available. I found these on Moda Muse, an Australian site for around USD $20.00.

Shannon McCaskill is the designer who says, I graduated from the Queensland College of art in 2004. I majored in Gold and Silversmithing. I really love patterns and colour and want to incorporate that in my jewellery.

Kimono anodized aluminum bangle

The Tokyo Dreams collection from Emma Farnworth is exquisite. I found these beauties at Something Found in small, medium, and large; ranging from £12.00 to £20.00--not bad!

I have had an obsession with Japan for many years and it provided me with inspiration for this range. It is a country with a strong sense of tradition and rich past, yet at the same time it is at the fore front of modern technology and has a very strong, and visual, youth culture. I used elements from traditional Kimono fabrics to create patterns which represent the traditions and past. Working with anodised aluminium allows me to apply the patterns using a variety of printing techniques and achieve the bright colours.

Kimono dressing gown

The Kimono Style dressing gown was from Rockett St George for a phenomenally-reasonable price of £19.95!

If you've read my other lens, Black and White, you know I like this item! It's available in black and white or white and black!

It's a lightweight 100% cotton dressing gown which features a stunning design in contrasting colour on the back. One size fits all.
