Welcome!
I love Squidoo! It is a community of interesting and unique people. It allows people to be themselves and write about what they are passionate about.
Find out how a middle-aged Mom, wife, and photographer ended up writing Squidoo lenses. You will see what's been on my mind since discovering Squidoo in April 2009.

A Little Background

My husband and I were both born in Canada and lived there until we were 30 years old. Job transfers moved us to Wisconsin, then Illinois, and finally Indiana over the past 22 years. Some day we will go back to Canada to live.
Thirty years ago (yikes!) I completed a degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo (Ontario) and worked in the corporate world for seven years. I was good in Math and thought I wanted to work in business. Not really! Once I had my first child and moved to the U.S., I decided that he next phase of my life would be spent raising children and doing volunteer work.
Turning 40 and moving to Indianapolis brought about a sea change for me. I took my first photography class at the Indianapolis Art Center and was hooked! Photography is a spiritual practice for me. It makes me slow down, be present, and appreciate the world right in front of my nose. This passion has not lessened in the past fourteen years.
As my kids grew, I became more interested in environmental issues and decided to go back to school for a Masters degree in Earth Literacy from Saint Mary of the Woods College (Indiana). I loved going back to school and this degree really opened my eyes to how unaware we are of the environmental consequences of our lifestyles. My goal is to combine photography with the knowledge I gained from my degree.

I Am a Mom of 3

Our oldest daughter, Michelle, was born in Canada and moved with us to Green Bay, Wisconsin six weeks later. She loves languages and just graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio and is spending this year in Russia on a Fulbright Scholarship. Our second daughter, Kelly, loves TV, film, and music - especially the Jonas Brothers. After two years in College, she decided that she was ready for the real world. She's living at home and working full time to prepare for a move to Nashville, Tennessee. Our youngest, Jason, is 18 and a senior in high school. He lives and breathes hockey and is planning to study architecture in College. They are very cool kids and I love them dearly.

Why Squidoo?

On April 7, 2009 I heard Seth Godin interviewed by Dr. Oz on the radio. Having never heard of Squidoo, I quickly checked it out while the interview was still on. Since I am interested in lots of topics and ideas, and love to research and make connections, I was immediately intrigued.
That day my first lens was launched -
My Top 10 Heroes, which pays homage to the people who have inspired me. Squidoo has now become another passion of mine. I see it as a way of sharing life experiences and the knowledge I've gained with others. It has also introduced me to a number of very interesting people, each with their own unique experiences.

My Favorite Quote
"The meaning of life is to see."

This quote comes from Frederick Franck, writer and sculptor. The type of seeing he is talking about is seeing without judgment or labels, accepting things and life as they are. I want my lens on Frederick Franck to be LOTD (Lens of the Day) because everyone should know about him.
Photography helps me to see. Here are my lenses on photography and seeing.

What songs define you?
Here are three of mine....
This is not an easy assignment for people. The song is not necessarily your favorite but one for which the words really relate to you. For example, mine are:
Hand in My Pocket by Alanis Morrisette - The ultimate Gemini song. Just so happens Alanis and I were born on the same day (definitely not the same year).
Real World by Matchbox Twenty - Love this song! It's for the introverts out there - "I wish the real world would just stop hassling me."
Do You Know Where You're Going To by Diana Ross - A friend from high school told me a long time ago that this song reminded her of me. I'm still asking "Do you like the things that life is showing you?"
