CafePress Terms and Their Definitions
When I was a newbie shopkeeper at Cafe Press, I came across a lot of terms that I didn't know. I checked the Cafe Press website and could not find any reference dictionary. I figure other Cafe Press newbie shopkeepers might like to have one as much as I do, so I am attempting to start one here.
I have gathered these definitions from the CP forums and other web marketing dictionaries on the internet. I will add to this list as I come across more terms. I also would love any imput from other CP shopkeepers who have a word they want to see added.
To add a word just sign my guest book at the bottom of this page along with your word.
Blessings,
Kim

CafePress Dictionary of Terms
Created to assist new Cafe Press shop keepers.
Affiliate = the publisher/salesperson in an affiliate marketing relationship.
Affiliate Program = A system where a merchant or advertiser pays other sites a commission for sending visitors to their site. Commissions may be calculated per click, per lead, or per sale.
AID = (Advertisement Identification Code) is set by CJ to track an individual advertiser's text link or banner.
API = (Application Programming Interface) is a source code interface that an operating system or library provides to support requests for services to be made of it by computer programs.[1] Advanced programming interface is a near synonym with wider application that predates the current common usage. In the original term the concept is meant to represent any well defined interface between two separate programs. The main difference is that this older term does not inculcate a parent-child relationship and can therefore be applied to peer-to-peer situations more logically, e.g. internal kernel services which can present themselves as separate programs.
Backlinks = are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node. Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links. Search engines often use the number of backlinks that a website has as one of the factors for determining that website's search engine ranking.
Bookmark = To record the location (URL) of a favorite Web site to allow quick access in the future.
Blog = A blend of the words web & log, is a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.
Blogroll = A list of blogs. A blogger features a list of their favorite blogs in the sidebar of their blog.
CID = (Company ID) is the master number under which all of your PID's are grouped.
CJ = (Commission Junction) is an online advertising company owned by ValueClick and operating in the affiliate marketing industry. The company is the largest affiliate network in North America and operates worldwide.
Conversion = A visitor taking the desired action on a transactional landing page.
Conversion Rate = The percentage of visitors who complete the desired action on a transactional landing page. The efficiency or quality of a landing page can be measured by its conversion rate.
Donots = The email notifications we CafePress Shop keepers get when we make a sale that originates from donotreply@cafepress.com
Href = hypertext reference - A type of anchor tag in html code.
Landing Page = In online marketing a landing page, sometimes known as a lead capture page, is the page that appears when a potential customer clicks on an advertisement or a search-engine result link. The page will usually display content that is a logical extension of the advertisement or link, and that is optimized to feature specific keywords or phrases for indexing by search engines.
PHP = PHP is a computer scripting language originally designed for producing dynamic web pages.
PID = (Publisher or website Identification code) Identifies your website in the CJ Publisher network.
POD = (Print On Demand) Ex: CafePress is a "Print On Demand" business.
Podcast = The term "podcast" is a blend of the acronym "Pod" - standing for "Portable on Demand" - and "broadcast". A podcast is a collection of digital media files which is distributed over the Internet, often using syndication (RSS) feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers.
Portal = A web portal is a site that functions as a point of access to information on the World Wide Web. Portals present information from diverse sources in a unified way. An example of a web portal is Yahoo!
Product or Data Feed = A file containing information about the products listed on your site. Product feeds are used by e-commerce companies to provide information about products in an online store to search engines, product comparison websites, and other similar aggregators of e-commerce information. By sending product feeds regularly you can make sure these sites display the latest pricing, promotional, or other information for your products. Ex. If you want your shop's products to appear in search engine marketplaces such as Google Shopping, you will need to do a bulk product/data feed to them.
ROI = (Return On Investment) The ratio of money gained or lost on an investment relative to the amount of money invested.
RSS = (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts.
SEO = (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results for targeted keywords.
SERP = (Search Engine Results Page) or SERP is the listing of web pages returned by a search engine in response to a keyword query.
SID = (Shopper Identification) code is set by you to track, identify, and/or reward your unique shoppers.

- Thanks for the nice comment on my Trick or Treat bags lens. I just started on Cafe Press. You have a nice looking shop on there. I had trouble customizing my store and went back to using a template. So far I only have Halloween stuff there.

- I don't really work on CP any more since they reduced our payments to 10% on marketplace sales 2 yrs ago. We used to get our full mark up for them. CP also went from partnering with designers to competing against us for sales. I keep my store up because I still make a few sales there. I now use Zazzle and like it much better. You should try it.
