The first Kindle Fire tablet is a 7" tablet. (There's likely to be a larger 10" tablet later if the smaller tablet is a success.)

- The Kindle Fire is a 7" tablet. This is a small tablet rather than a large iPad size tablet.
- The Kindle Fire has a color touchscreen. This differentiates it from the exisiting eInk Kindles and puts it in competition with the Nook Color
- The Kindle Fire is designed to be easy to use and to make it easy to access content
- The Kindle Fire has an email client, a web brower called Amazon Silk, media players for video and MP3 and Kindle eBook reader
- You get free cloud storage so you don't have to worry about running out of disk space
- You get Wifi access and Whispersync across devices (start reading or watching on the Fire continue on another device)
- You can play apps and games from the Amazon AppStore

The Kindle Fire release date is November 15th. In time for Christmas.

We're not sure whether supplies will run out! At the $199 lauch price the Kindle Fire will be popular.

The Kindle Fire price is $199 at launch. (Much lower than the expected $250 to $300 range). Which makes it quite an affordable option for a tablet. Amazon can afford to do this because they plan to make money on the content.

We may see different pricing bundles depending on content options. Amazon already has Amazon Prime which includes access to a huge library of movies. And there have been rumors of an Amazon book rental service.

For the Kindle, Amazon have been offering lower price points to customers who accept advertizing on their device. Amazon may also provide a similar lower price-point for the Amazon Kindle Fire.

So far we're just seeing the $199 price. With Amazon Prime as extra.

I've written previously about Kindle Fire Amazon Tablet content. Basically, the device will act as:

- An eReader
- A music player
- A video player
- A web browser (with Wifi access)
- An Amazon app store application and game device
- An email client
- A convenient shopping device (yes, that's an interesting thought)

So who is the Kindle Fire for? The tech industry is very excited about the Kindle Fire, but I don't see this as a tablet for geeks and early adopters. The Kindle Fire will bring tablet computing to the next phase of adopters. Ease of use is going to be crucial here. If Amazon have made the Kindle Fire easy to use then this will be the tablet that the average person will be using on a daily basis.

It will be used in the living room, when the family can't agree on what movie to watch. Or when Mom wants to do some online shopping and the kids are on the computer.

The small size means it will be easy to pop into a purse (so Mom can catch up on a TV show while waiting for Jimmie to finish baseball practice.) Or into a manbag so Dad can check the sports news while watching Jimmie's game.

This initial 7" Kindle Fire is not an iPad replacement for most people. We'll have to wait for the larger version for that.
