Kindle The Latest Generation
On February 24, 2009 the next generation of the digital reader from Amazon was released. Referred to as Kindle 2, this little number is absolutely incredible in it's capabilities.
I've already received my Kindle 2 and I absolutely love it. It far exceeds my expectations.
Being an avid reader for some 51 of my 57 years, I will always love books. Real books with real pages. I also sell old books and that will never change. This rather new technology of the digital wireless reader has me quite smitten.
I've created this lens especially for readers who are in the "thinking" stage. A little on the fence about whether to purchase one or not. Read on to find out more about the Kindle from Amazon and find accessories and more to add to your Kindle experience.
Kindle DX will now be the latest Generation as of June 2009. I have added information for the newest generation of Kindle to this lens.

Testimony of a Kindle 2 owner
I fell in love with the Kindle and the entire concept when I first heard about the Kindle 1. I was just blown away with the entire technology and could see that this was the wave of the future. At the time, I decided I was going to save my pennies and get one within the year. I talked to everyone I could about the digital reader for weeks. I'm an avid reader and have been for most of my life. My bookshelves are filled with favorites, some might say I have my own personal little library in my home. I'm a confessed bibliophile and bibliopole (a person who sells old books). This digital reader seems to be a strong contender for the future of literature and that intrigues me.
First of all, I love that fact that it is "green" and good for the environment. Trees don't have to be cut down to make paper to make a book. It's compact, as thin as a pencil. So I can take it anywhere and it won't take up a lot of space. On vacation, I don't have to take 3 or 4 books to read - I can just download the books to my Kindle and conserve space.
Because it's wireless and works more like a cell-phone, I don't have to be hooked up to anything in order to purchase a book, magazine, or newspaper. So no matter where I am, I can make a purchase and in about 60 seconds I can start to read it! That is just incredible.
I should, at this point, make a confession. I didn't actually purchase the Kindle myself. My dear sweet husband surprised me with it as a gift. (Honestly, I think he probably got tired of hearing me talk about it!) He ordered the Kindle for me in late December and the shipment was scheduled for late February or early March. The nice surprise was that Kindle 2 was released and Amazon automatically upgraded the order and sent me the new 2nd generation.
I can't tell you just how much I love my Kindle. It is so amazing and so easy to use. The text display is very clear and easy to read with no glare. I love the feature where you can make the text larger (nice for us old ladies who need the larger print!). And most books are $9.99 or LESS!
Get a Good Cover
Your Kindle 2 does not come with a cover. You will need to get a good one to protect your Kindle. I purchased the M-Edge Platform in the beautiful Fuschia color. It's sturdy, lightweight, and offers very good protection.
Bonus Books
I didn't expect that and it has been a nice surprise. During the month of March 2009 I was able to purchase 3 books for less than $7.00.

Kindle DX A New Generation
The Kindle DX is scheduled to start shipping around June 10, 2009. This newest generation of Kindle will have a larger screen at 9.7" diagonal versus the current Kindle at 6" diagonal. The newest generation of Kindle called the DX will also hold 3500 books compared to the 1500 that the Kindle 2 holds.
The price is a hefty $130 more than the Kindle 2 which might deter many from purchasing the newest generation. That remains to be seen by the reaction by the consumers.

Kindle DX Platform Cover
M-Edge Platform Genuine Leather Kindle DX Jacket (Fits 9.7" Display, Latest Generation Kindle DX), Pebbled Purple

I particularly like this purple leather platform cover for the Kindle DX. I have one for my Kindle 2 in fuschia and I love the way it protects my Kindle and also the stiffness of the cover that allows it to stand next to me while I read.

- Love this lens! I am one who is in the 'thinking' stage. Can the books be transferred from one version of Kindle to another? What happens when you fill it up with books, does that mean you have to purchase another Kindle?

- I know that you can now put your Kindle books on your PC so if you can do that you could transfer to a new Kindle I would think. Fill it up? That would take quite a while as the DX holds 3500 books. However, if you did fill it up...there is a delete feature where you could take out the ones you didn't plan on reading again.

- Thanks for the info. My daughter is addicted to reading and re-reading her books. We have too many books. We are thinking about getting her one for Christmas. This was very helpful.

- Bev, great lens. Well you know I have one and I love it alot. Its one of the best inventions out there. After getting my kindle, I can't stand the idea of reading regular paper books anymore. The kindle is better on your eyes. I like how you can enlarge the text which is great for me since I don't have the best vision. For anyone thinking of getting it. Its well worth it and easy to read from.
You get 5 stars and a blessing from me. I also lensrolled your lens to all of my kindle lenses.

- I do not have a Kindle, but I do love ebooks and I believe they will become mainstream very soon. Of course, I may be biased as I am an ebook author. On the other hand, my husband works for a paper company, so maybe I should feel a bit guilty backing ebooks. However, based on the amount of junk (snail) mail I get, I don't think I'll worry about his job security just yet.
