Compared to its predecessors, this new device is more compact, has a more ergonomic positioning of the keys, has a faster page refresh, larger memory and an extremely improved battery life that now last for up to 1 month. Also the clarity of character is very much improved, and in short, Amazon has managed to create an e-reader that will make us forget about reading printed books ever again.

The Kindle 3 incorporates the "old" Kindle 2 device with its various existing functions, including social networking, free 3G access to the Kindle Store (and its wide selection of ebooks at competitive prices) and a platform for sharing.

To make it as portable as possible, Amazon has reduced its size bringing it to 19 × 12 × 0.8 cm. The size reduction also reduces weight at 246 grams. This results in a smaller, thinner and lighter device. Although the dimensions are reduced, the memory has been doubled. The Kindle has 4GB of memory, which can carry up to 3500 books at a time.

Battery life is also doubled and if you turn off the wireless function, the Kindle can last up to three months, making it even more ideal for travel. There is no need to get a charger with you, even if you plan to spend a lot of time away from home.

This ebook reader is also improved in terms of design to make it more ergonomic. Amazon seems to have thought a lot about what to remove and what to leave on. Forward page buttons on either side of the screen are now half a centimeter wide.

The size of the joystick is reduced, and is now below the screen along with Home and Menu buttons.

The biggest improvements, however, have to do with readability and the new screen eInk offers 50% more contrast. You can now change the font type (choices include Condensed, Serif and Sans Serif).

The Kindle 3 also supports non-English characters including Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Cyrillic. The Built-in PDF reader has improved more than ever, you can add highlights, notes and look up the definition of words in the dictionary. You can also access the password protected files.

It has the 'Lend Me' feature that lets you lend or borrow E-books for 14 days for free.
It has 18 GB of Expandable memory.
It offers you the option to read any book on the store for one hour per day, free of charge.
And The Winner is: the Kindle 3 seems to be superior to the Nook.
