A FEW GOOD PHOTO EXAMPLES

Eager to see what people might be submitting to the Kindness in Focus photo contest?

Here are a few photos we've rounded up to give you an idea. (And no, the ones from Squidoo.com and VolunteerMatch are not eligible to win!)

The only requirement is that your photo and story highlight the spirit of people doing good. We welcome photo submissions from anyone and everyone -- volunteers, photography enthusiasts, people-watchers, nonprofit staffers, parents, you name it!

ANIMALS BRINGING JOY

Submitted by the ASPCA

"ME-WOW! Laser the Siamese and his owner, Nancy Kucik, are in their ninth year as a Delta Society Pet Partners team, visiting kids and adults in hospitals in the Birmingham, AL, area. Meeting Laser, who was crowned as ASPCA Cat of the Year in 2006, brightens up their day -- especially when he gives one of his trademark hugs."

REBUILDING NEW ORLEANS

Submitted by Squidoo's very own Corey Brown

"In late January 2007, I was lucky to join up with an awesome group heading down to New Orleans to help residents who were hit hard by hurricane Katrina. Here, I'm in protective gear because the air quality and conditions were so bad. I had no idea what I was about to experience. We couldn't avoid seeing the destruction -- homes and businesses in ruin, debris everywhere, and missing signs and traffic signals. New Orleans still needs a lot of help."

KIDS GETTING IN ON SOME CLEANUP!

Submitted by VolunteerMatch

"Some kids volunteer to clean up their community with Community Impact. It's never too early to start helping out, as demonstrated by these two!"

POSTERS HELP FIND MISSING KIDS

Submitted by Polly Klaas Foundation® volunteer, Susan R.

"I started volunteering for the Polly Klaas® Foundation in September 1998. I began by answering the Hotlines and talking to families of missing children, and have done many jobs over the years. At the Foundation there has always been this central feeling of care and respect for missing children and their families that has remained constant -- and that keeps me volunteering."
