Who is Kiri Te Kanawa

Ranked #8,283 in Music, #226,775 overall

A Great Singer.

She has been an Opera Singer, but sometimes has dabbled in some popular music.

She has done the hard yards,
but success is part perspiration and part inspiration.
Also, with any dream, or any prayers,or any high and singing notes....you need to find a God energy a healing overview of existential Love before you ask, before you pray for any human thing.
Everyone can learn,
and everyone can get immense skills as Kiri.
If knowledge is one thing, and wisdom has humility,
I think knowledge is very very important.

Kiri Te Kanawa has certainly been a Premier citizen of New Zealand.

Kiri has not spent much time in New Zealand, but I would not expect her to anyway.

She has made it big internationally even though she is from New Zealand.
Many people do follow her progress in New Zealand,
but there has been a lot who can only twist what they know they should feel about one of their own whom has done so well.So it is good that she can just plug on regardless.
Being Maori and yet has enormous ability to look for culture and break out of the cycle of negative awareness's that are so easy to fall back on.However, the negatives quite rightly are what makes the stuff of a lot of culture, and she shows that these awareness's can be brought to excellent use.

Kiri Te Kanawa? How much do you care about her?

Sometimes people can try too hard in music as if it should be reproduced with copious intellectual input.

New Zealand may have helped Kiri learn to create a Yin Yang consciousness towards Classical music.
You need to go back to the origins of the music.
Recreation can drive you crazy.
There has to be a life view, a drive.
This will be reflected in performances.

I am a big fan of Kiri, have seen her many times in NZ when she first started in her 20's and then while I was living in Sydney, she has many detracters as well as fans, and I have always stuck up for her.

BUT in light of the recent earthquakes in Christchurch, so many overseas artists have leant their support, so I just have this to say "KIRI WHERE ARE YOU?" surely you can lend support to the country of your birth.

I think my wife is taking me to hear Dame Kiri tonight in Perth.

This is an exciting opportunity as I haven't heard Dame Kiri live since about '67. '68 maybe '69 when if I am recalling correctly, she performed Carmen in Wellington N.Z. I was just a small kid but absolutely mesmerized by the opera, her voice and when we met on stage after the performance, her beauty.

I still see the performers on stage, I recall my parents with whispered announcements informing me of her pending entrance and leaning forward on the edge of my seat to see and hear ALL I could.

Dame Kiri, I will be truly disappointed if we do not attend your performance tonight. No matter what, I wish you all the best and thank you for giving a young boy such a wondrous entry to the world of opera.

    Sincerely
    David Haddy

I'm a big fan! I first found Kiri on Andrew Lloyd Webbers Birthday Party CD when she sang Theres only you. My husband is totally smitten! This song brought us closer together. My husband, Van cant stand the idea that someone hurt you. May God continue to bless you Kiri. We love you.

I am disgusted by this latest rant by Kiri. Although this attitude is not new from her someone needs to take this woman down a peg or two. Stop embarrassing yourself Kiri, I think you need a lesson or two in grace and humility. Please don't say you come from NZ as I don't want people to know such a mean and nasty women comes from here!!!!

First of all im a Kiwi and I will support any and all Kiwi artists to the ends of the earth. But, when i hear stories of Kiri being a bit "aloof" and "elitist", (and there are many, many such stories about her we get to hear about in NZ) i put it down to stardom, however, her latest comments regarding "other" singers, lead me to finally come to the conclusion that she is completely stuck up!.. yes, they are different styles of singers, yes she may not want to be grouped with them, but the snobby "im better than them" attitude and comments such as "I'm not interested. This competition is named after me and has far more stability." just goes to show, that she is indeed someone who thinks she is better than everyone else.
Hopefully karma does exist and she will get "her's" at some point...

I just love Kiri Te Kanawa voice the first time I heard it. I still remember hearing her sing Christmas songs on PBS in the United States at Christmas time. It must have been around 1988 or 1989 sitting up on Christmas Eve. She had a performance and I was in ahh at her beautiful voice. I started researching her at that time. I bought several Opera CD's with her name on it just to listen to her voice. I did not understand the words however, I listen to her voice like it was a insturment of beautiful sound.
I have bought several CD's by her and I love each and everyone. Through her I have learned the beauty of OPRA. I travel in my car for work often. I play her CD's without fail. It lightens my heart and soul.
I would love to see her in concert. Does she ever come to the U.S.? I would travel near and far to see her. I
I do believe my favorite is Vissi d' arte . I learn to love "OPRA" so much through her that I named my Italian Grey Hound form the opra "Carman".
