Kiss Rocking the world for 3 decades

Kiss traces its roots to Wicked Lester, a New York City-based rock and roll band led by co-founders Gene Simmons (born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel on August 25, 1949) and Paul Stanley (born Stanley Harvey Eisen in Queens, New York City on January 20, 1952). Wicked Lester, with their eclectic mixture of musical styles, never achieved any success. They recorded one album, which was shelved by Epic Records, and played a handful of live shows. Simmons and Stanley, feeling that a new musical direction was needed, abandoned Wicked Lester in 1972 and began forming a new group

"Detroit Rock City" by KISS

"Detroit Rock City" is a song by Kiss featured on their 1976 album, Destroyer

The song was written by Paul Stanley and Bob Ezrin and is about a real Kiss fan who was killed in a car accident on his way to a Kiss concert (In the intro you can hear a report on a car accident, narrated by Gene Simmons). The song, recorded and released as a single in 1976, was the third single off of Kiss's album Destroyer and was planned to be their last in support of the album.

"Lick It Up" by KISS

It is the title track on their 1983 album of the same name

Written by guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley and guitarist Vinnie Vincent, the song was released as the first single from the album in 1983.

A video was made to promote the single. It was the first video to feature the band without its famous makeup. The video premeried on MTV on September 18, 1983 in a half-hour special hosted by J. J. Jackson. Despite all the hype and promotion for the single, it stalled at #66 on the American Billboard Hot 100 charts, although it broke into the Top 40 in several other countries.

The original lineup of Gene Simmons (bass and vocals), Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar and vocals), Paul "Ace" Frehley (lead guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and vocals) became the most successful and identifiable in the band's history, and released a series of gold and platinum albums throughout the 1970s. Due to substance abuse problems and creative differences, both Criss and Frehley were out of the group by 1982.

"Rock and Roll All Nite" by Kiss

Originally released on their 1975 album Dressed to Kill

It was released as the A-side of their fifth single, with the album track "Getaway." The studio version of the song peaked at #57 on the Billboard singles chart, besting the band's previous charting single, "Kissin' Time" (#79). A subsequent live version released as a single in October 1975, eventually reaching #12, the first of six Top 20 songs for Kiss in the 1970s. Since then, it has become Kiss's most identifiable song, and has served as one of the group's closing concert numbers in almost every concert since 1976.

"Psycho Circus" by Kiss

It is the title track from the 1998 album with the same name

The b-side is the non-album track "In Your Face", a song written by Kiss bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons and sung by lead guitarist Ace Frehley.

"Psycho Circus" was written by guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley and collaborator Curt Cuomo specifically to fit the theme of the Psycho Circus Tour and album. According to producer Bruce Fairbairn, "We didn't have an opener for the record. We didn't have anything that was going to start things off. And Paul just looked at me and said, 'check this. This is it...' We both sat there and looked at each other and started to laugh. Because that was it"

A video was made to promote the single, which was made in the same 3-D theme as the album and tour, and was directed by James Hurlburt and produced by Doc McGhee and Eddie Vasker. The video was ignored by MTV.

Kiss is the self-titled debut album by Kiss

When it was released, on February 8, 1974, Kiss had been a band for little more than one year

Much of the material on the album was written by Gene Simmons and/or Paul Stanley, as members of their pre-Kiss band, Wicked Lester. Simmons estimated that the entire process of recording and mixing took three weeks, while co-producer Richie Wise claimed it took just thirteen days.

The album was recorded at Bell Sound Studios in New York City, which was owned by the company that owned Buddah Records. Neil Bogart, founder of Casablanca Records, was an executive at Buddah prior to forming Casablanca.

Hotter Than Hell (1974) by KISS

Musically, Hotter Than Hell is darker than the band's first album.

This is partly due to the murkier production values, but also to the lyrical content of some of the songs. "Goin' Blind," which details a doomed romance with an underage girl, was a song written by Gene Simmons and Stephen Coronel during Wicked Lester's existence. The original title was "Little Lady."

Hotter Than Hell featured far more overdubs than the first album. While Kerner and Wise wanted to produce a record that captured Kiss as a live act, they decided to take advantage of the experience the band had gained as recording artists.

Dressed to Kill 1975 album from KISS!

It is the band's third studio album and is unique for having been produced by the president of Casablanca Records, Neil Bogart

"C'mon And Love Me", and "Rock and Roll All Nite" were released as singles. Both failed to rise high on the charts until "Rock and Roll All Nite", was released in its live format as a single later that year off their double live album Alive!.

On the album cover each member is wearing a business suit, but none of them owned one at the time; they didn't even fit right. So they had to borrow suits from their manager Bill Aucoin.

Alive! was Kiss' fourth album

Released on September 10, 1975, the double-disc set contained live versions of selected tracks from their first three studio albums, Kiss, Hotter Than Hell, and Dressed to Kill

It peaked at #9 on the album charts. The album charted for 110 weeks, by far the longest in the band's history. In 2003, the album was ranked number 159 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Most recently, Alive! was re-released in 2006 as part of the Kiss Alive! 1975-2000 box set (also featuring Alive II, Alive III and Alive! The Millennium Concert). The short running-time of Alive! allowed for a single, unedited CD edition in this latest release. This remastered CD edition eliminates the breaks between the four sides of the original LP release, resulting in this version of the album playing as one continuous performance.

Destroyer is the fifth album by Kiss

It was the second consecutive Kiss album to reach the Top 20 in the United States, as well as the first to chart in Germany and New Zealand.

Released on March 15, 1976 in the United States. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on April 22, 1976. It was certified platinum on November 11, 1976, the first Kiss album to achieve that distinction.

Coming on the heels of the group's breakthrough album Alive!, Destroyer is easily the most ambitious studio recording of Kiss's '70s catalogue. Bob Ezrin, who had previously worked with Alice Cooper, was brought in to produce the album. Among the production flourishes Ezrin introduced to Kiss were sound effects, strings, screaming children (on "God Of Thunder") reversed drums (Also on "God of Thunder") as well as a children's choir.

Rock and Roll Over is the sixth album by KISS!

Unlike Destroyer, which was recorded with members of the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra, Rock and Roll Over was recorded by just Stanley, Frehley, Simmons, and Criss.

The album was a return to the more straight-ahead rock sound heard on the group's first three albums.

In order to achieve the required drum sound for Rock and Roll Over, Peter Criss played in a bathroom at the Star Theatre and communicated with the rest of the band via a video link. Criss's vocals are featured on the track, "Hard Luck Woman." Paul Stanley, who originally wanted the song to be sung by Rod Stewart, gave it to Peter Criss, who possessed a similar voice, after Simmons insisted Criss sing the song instead. Although the single did not equal the success of "Beth," it did become another Top 20 single for the group. Rock and Roll Over was the first Kiss album to ship gold, and from there had a meteoric rise to double platinum status.

Love Gun is the 6th album by the American hard rock band Kiss.

Love Gun is notable for being the first Kiss album to feature a lead vocal performance from lead guitarist Ace Frehley

This makes Love Gun the first Kiss album to feature lead vocal performances from all four band members. It was also the last album to feature the entire original lineup of Kiss on every track, as drummer Peter Criss was replaced by session drummer Anton Fig for much of 1979's Dynasty.

Even though none of the band members attended a cast session, the song "Plaster Caster" was inspired by Cynthia Plaster Caster, a former groupie who is infamous for casting penises of famous rock musicians like Jimi Hendrix, as well as breasts of female music artists.

Alive II was recorded in 1977 from live performances by Kiss. It is the group's eighth album and second live album.

It was certified 2x Platinum in November 1977, when it sold 2,000,000 copies (It again attained 2x Platinum on February 26, 1996)

Most of the tracks on Alive II were recorded during the Love Gun tour. As Kiss did not want to duplicate songs included on Alive!, the songs chosen for the three live sides of the album were all drawn from Kiss' three preceding studio albums - Destroyer, Rock and Roll Over and Love Gun.

For Alive II, Kiss used more overdubs than on Alive!. "Hard Luck Woman" and "Tomorrow and Tonight" were performed live but without an audience, the crowd noise was added later.

Double Platinum is a greatest hits album by the American hard rock band Kiss.

Double Platinum is a double-album, 20-track collection that gathers all of Kiss' biggest hits ("Rock and Roll All Nite," "Beth," "Detroit Rock City," "Calling Dr. Love," "Love Gun")

Many of the songs on Double Platinum were modified from their original versions. In the case of "Strutter," it was completely re-recorded with a slight disco feel as "Strutter '78." Other songs ("Hard Luck Woman," "Detroit Rock City") had sections completely removed.

The original vinyl release, in a gatefold-sleeve, had an embossed, silver-foiled sleeve, with the band members in bas-relief inside. The album was packaged with a printed "Platinum Award" thanking the Kiss Army for making the band a "Double Platinum Success." Later reissues would retain the gatefold-sleeve but replaced the logo with a printed, red-type version and the band members were now represented inside by photos rather than the bas illustrations. When the album was remastered for CD in the US it mimicked the original vinyl.

Gene Simmons is a 1978 solo album from the bass player of American hard rock band Kiss

One of four solo albums released by the members of Kiss on September 18, 1978

The Gene Simmons album made it to number 22 on the US Billboard album chart, making it the highest placing of all the four "Kiss" solos of 1978. Gene played mainly electric and acoustic guitars, on this album, leaving the bass work to Neil Jason.

ist Katey Sagal, who would go on to play Peg Bundy on Married With Children, provided backing vocals. Simmons re-recorded "See You In Your Dreams" because he reportedly wasn't happy with the way it was recorded on Rock and Roll Over.

Peter Criss is a 1978 solo album from the drummer of Kiss.

It was one of four solo albums released by the members of Kiss on September 18, 1978.

The other albums were released by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley.

The album would be the weakest selling of all the Kiss solo albums of 1978, reaching #43 on the US Billboard album chart. On the other hand, it also had the distinction of being the only album of the four to have two singles released from it: "Don't You Let Me Down" and "You Matter to Me".

Criss covered "Tossin' and Turnin'," which was a #1 hit for Bobby Lewis in the US during the summer of 1961. The song was subsequently covered by Kiss on their 1979 tour.

The album, and its subsequent tour, were billed as the "Return of Kiss." The band as a full unit had not released a studio album since 1977 and had not toured since the Spring of 1978. The album would restore the band to commercial prominence, reaching # 9 on the US Billboard album chart.

Alive III is a live album released by Kiss in 1993, and certified gold in 1994.

The recording of Alive III took place over multiple dates (in Cleveland, Detroit and Indianapolis

During the band's 1992 tour in support of Revenge. It was the first live album the band had released since 1977's Alive II, and the first live recordings released since 1985's "Animalize Live Uncensored" concert film.

The recording of "I Was Made For Loving You", was actually recorded at one of the bands' soundchecks, but had the crowd overdubbed in the song to make it appear as if it is "live" which led to speculation that many other songs on "Alive III" could be overdubbed. Additionally, the fact that keyboardist Derek Sherinian appears on Alive III leads to much speculation that the band faked vocal parts on stage, specifically Gene Simmons, as he had done so on the "Hot In The Shade" tour in 1990. (This is evidenced by unmixed bootleg videos from two of the Auburn Hills concerts.) The band were very secretive about having side keyboard players on possibly many of their tours through the 80's and early 90's. Kiss fans are no stranger to the fact that some of Alive I and Alive II had certain parts doctored in the studio, and that some of the songs are not even recorded "live" in concert but at Electric Lady Studios with Eddie Kramer.
