The Kiss Business: Keep It Simple Sweetheart (3) - doing it by the books, blogs and newsletters

Kiss Business 3? What about Kiss 1 and 2? Where are they, what are they?
The Kiss Business comes from (mis)using the world's best acronym Keep It Simple Sweetheart" for a business novel.
That is Kiss1.

Kiss2 followed automagically by creating a blog about the same principle as features in the novel. On this blog I've now posted The Winning Combination and my personal recommendation on which books to read in which order to profit most of all these (new) ideas.

Kiss3 is a Lens about the best books, blogs and newsletters (and more) filled with practical business advice I know or came (will come) across. They all have 1 thing in common: making business simple!
The title is based on the first ever post on the Kiss2 Blog: doing it by the books

IMHO best Business Advice Books (and Novels) around

Doing it by the books. My toppers (so far)

Can you learn to create a successful business by reading books?
Not really, but these books can give you practical ideas you could try out.
And it is the trying that matters.
On my Kiss2 blog I've now posted The Winning Combination and my personal recommendation on which books to read in which order to profit most of all these (new) ideas.
(Sorry if all links below bring you to Amazon.com and not UK.
But.... a way around has been found (I'm stubborn), see my Amazon.CO.UK Lens )

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't

Why good is not good enough to be become a sustainable business.
Research translated in a very readable book, which makes you stop and think time after time - grabbing pen and paper to scribble down the changes you're going to implement in your strategy plan to become one of the great businesses.
No rocket science; honest and practical.

The Long Tail : Why the Future Is Selling Less of More

Groundbreaking? Yes and no.
Yes: Mass marketing is passé, 80/20 pareto is passé
No: common sense in this era
Mind-boggling? Definitely!
Read it and if your business advisor still goes on and on about mass marketing, the 4 or 5 P's and getting into the mainstream: find another advisor, fast! (And hand a copy of this book to your former advisor, it might safe him ;-)

The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement

First ever "Business Novel" I read - recommended to me when I was studying logistics - and which made production line theories and other common business problems and their solutions very clear in an enjoyable way.
'Old' but still very applicable today.

Business Advice Books (and Novels) outside Amazon.com

Well, I like to think lateral and creative. If Amazon.com doesn't let me link to co.uk available books I'll just create my own ;-)

But.... a way around has been found (I'm stubborn), see my Amazon.CO.UK Lens )

The Kiss Business: The "Keep Is Simple Sweetheart" principle in business.
Debut Business Novel by Karin Hermans
(available as paperback and E-Book))

I'll donate £ 1.50 of every copy sold (paperback or E-book) to RoomToRead.org.

Room To Read - take the challange!

There are a few things in life I'm passionate about. One of them is quality and customer care, another big one is reading (and writing, but that's a completely different story ;-)
No, reading and especially having 'instant' access to books I want to read, like libraries or online stores and nowadays also download sites for E-books, that's IMHO one of life's necessities. Most of what I know, most of why I've become what I've become is due to books, reading, learning and I think you could call me one of those 'eternal students'.
So when I read (there we go again ;-)) about Seth Godin's challenge I didn't need to think twice to build this Lens and add my tiny little bit to the Roomtoread.org.

I've even decided to donate £ 1.50 for every copy of The Kiss Business, The "Keep It Simple Sweetheart" Principle in Business paperback or E-book to this charity.
See the topic: Books outside Amazon.com on this page for more info about my debut business novel.

HOW TO GET YOUR CUSTOMERS TO BUY MORE.....
AND KEEP THEM COMING BACK - TIME AFTER TIME!

Why do you need customers? Simple. Without customers you don't have a business - or a job. Customers are the lifeblood of your business despite what you may have heard. Inventory, skills, expertise, ability and business premises are all very necessary, but without customers to buy what you make, deliver, service or sell you have no business. Try running your business for a few months without customers and see what happens.

Ideate - Small Business in South Africa
Ideate means 'to come up with ideas'.

This blog is about just that: Fresh new ideas. It also happens to be about small business in South Africa. It's also about money. It's about innovation. It's about movement, progress, and gob-smackingly brilliant concepts. Most importantly, it's about the people who come up with these concepts. We aim to examine the crazy, hyper-charged world of the small business owner.

You buy something (products - even raw materials - or time - even your own time), add value to it and you sell it -> business.
Sounds simple enough.
