What do you need in your kitchen to be successful at cooking healthy dinners?

My husband and I celebrated our ten-year anniversary this summer, that makes over 3000 dinners that I've have to think about, find food for, prepare, cook, and eat. I've weeded out the unnecessary appliances and utensils and bought things that I knew I would use again and again. This lens will share the information you need to get your kitchen produce-friendly, so you can be a more efficient cook. See my website for ways to use these items for cooking Healthy Dinners.

This is a list of the top ten items I have found essential to my kitchen

1. One good chef's knife. My favorite knife is from Pampered Chef, and it's their largest knife they sell.

2. A few good steak knives. I use these to cut up something on the spur of the moment, like an apple or a tomato. If you have a few, there will always be a clean one.

3. Two cutting boards. This way, there's always a clean one, or if you're preparing raw meat and veggies in one meal, you can use separate cutting boards.

4. A bamboo straight-ended spoon (as in the picture above). You need this to cook ground beef. It will chop up the meat as you cook it, unlike a plastic spatula that will bend and potentially flip meat everywhere (been there, done that).

5. 12-inch skillet. In my kitchen we have 2 because when I make crepes or pancakes, I can make them twice as fast. We use this pan Every Single Day.

6. 12-inch wok pan. I cook all my dinner stuff in here if there's too much food to fit in the shallow skillet pan.

7. One 12-inch glass lid. This will fit all the aforementioned pans. Just get one.

8. 8-quart deep pot. The 5 or 6-quart pot than came in my pan set would ALWAYS boil over, so this way, even though my recipes stayed the same size, the pot contents stopped boiling over and getting my kitchen all dirty!

9. A good peeler. Currently, my favorite one is from OXO.

10. Food processor. This sounds like a big investment, but the one I bought was only $40, and it works great! It chops, grates, and slices. I don't think I will ever need anything fancier than that.

11. (BONUS FAVORITE) I would die without my silicon rubber scraper. It's heat resistant, and I have 3 that are ALWAYS in use. :)

My favorite thing I use almost daily in my kitchen is my giant 5 qt frying pan. I picked it up at Sam's Club for $20 and it even came with a lid. Everyone should have one of these.
