Everything I Need To Know I Learned From My Cat

All you have to do is look into the eyes of a cat and you know without a doubt that this is a wise being.

Have you ever experienced the Zen of a kitten? Have you learned important lessons about life from your cat? If so, you will be able to relate to what my kittens have taught me.

It's true... everything I need to know I have learned from my cats. Here's a sampling of their feline enlightenment.

Be born anew every minute of every day.

Are cats smarter or more enlightened than most other animals?

Of course! My cat's a Zen Einstein.

malina123 says:

Wouldn't go as far as to say my cat is an Einstein as the one that I currently have does seam a bit.. umm special =). But my previous cat was a genius.

Zhana21 says:

Cats are both highly intelligent and highly intuitive. However, only humans can attain true Enlightenment.

kathysart says:

I think ALL animals are more enlightened than we think they are.

kitty222 says:

Sure -- My cats definitely have the Zen thing down. They even do their meditating right on my porch rail.

Graceonline says:

Having lived with several cats, I have to say they may be the most intelligent, most spiritual beings I have ever known.

No way! My other animals out-smart and out-Zen those cats any day.

aardvarkapparel says:

I think most dogs are smarter, but I know cats can make many more vocal sounds

nephthys says:

I think horses are smarter

Helene-Malmsio says:

I absolutely ADORE my teenage Hooligan Kitties - *but* I really do think that dogs are smarter. But not necessarily more loving than cats - I think they are equal in the affection department, unlike some people think about cats.

Koupie says:

I have never had a cat or been around cats, but my dog even though he is small is the most enlightened creature I have ever known :)

Margo_Arrowsmith says:

Some are and some aren't, like any other animal, its individual

Oh, and my Xander the Chihuahua is smarter than any animal!

How have four-legged children touched your life?

What are the lessons you have learned from the cats or other beloved animals in your life? How have they transformed or enlightened you?

Ah, "Before enlightenment... nap. After enlightenment... nap." I'm feeling it!
  • marsha32 May 29, 2012 @ 12:05 am | delete
Too too adorable! I'm having discussions with our new kitten though. She is in a super playful mood...clawing my legs, knocking down my coupons, getting in to the trash, jumping on my and trying to play with my necklace....you get the pictures. She's adorable, but isn't she tired yet?
  • TeamSTM May 23, 2012 @ 12:09 pm | delete
Now I clearly see cats in a Whole new way and for some reason, this Lens makes sense. As if I somehow already knew this?!? What kind of moment would that be, it's stronger than a dejavu?
  • grannysage May 11, 2012 @ 1:25 pm | delete
I decided to start my day by hanging out with these kittens. I just met a kitten who definitely fits the description of a zen kitten. He is totally in the moment.

I was adopted by two kittens 8 years ago and a puppy last August. They've made a huge difference in our lives. They really do make a house a home.
  • KimGiancaterino Mar 13, 2012 @ 3:25 pm | delete
Our latest kitten showed up in July, watching us from the fence behind our hot tub. Now Peanut sleeps with us. My last batch of rescue kitties are 12 now, so it's fun to watch a kitten discover things for the first time. Not so fun for mice, though. Peanut's a real killer.

Lol it seems that I am revisiting your lenses today. I will have to dig to the bottom of your pile for ones that I have not visited before. Blessings for all the four legged kids out there.

My cats were my babies. They were the light of my life. They give you so much love and ask for so little in return. I think kittens are the most perfect animals of all.
  • kathysart Feb 20, 2012 @ 11:28 am | delete
I love my two kitties and all my cats in the past. To me a house is not a home without one or two. Angel blessed.
  • Graceonline Feb 17, 2012 @ 7:05 pm | delete
Incidentally, I don't think I see you in the forum very often, but I spotlighted this lens there. I thought it might comfort others as it had me today.
  • Graceonline Feb 17, 2012 @ 10:51 am | delete
Oh yes, they have. I feel so blessed for the kittens in my life, for the love and warmth they brought to me, especially in my darkest hours. The most important lesson from my feline companions: No matter how alone you feel, there is plenty of love in the world.

They are living on a more conscious level than we are, they know how to live in the "now", and it takes little to make them happy.
Great lens, don't know why it took me so long to visit this one.

We found a litter of kittens abandoned under the dumpster at school a few years ago. All of the kittens were taken home by one teacher or another. We adopted Mascara. No regrets. She's a part of the family now.
  • RenaissanceWoman2010 May 10, 2011 @ 8:22 am | delete
What a cute name! I'm not surprised that teachers chose to adopt and care for those kittens. Compassion is the heart of all educators. Thanks for your comments and support. :-)

Beautiful lens and amazingly cute pictures of kittens. Thanks for sharing the learnings from your cat. I don't have any pets now, but we did have a sweet cat when we were kids. They surely are special creatures in their own way....well done! :)

  • kimmanleyort Apr 3, 2011 @ 12:51 pm | delete
Yes, but I have a dog, not a cat. Yet, your pictures are awesome and I do believe that all animals have much to teach.

Too many ways to tell. Mostly, they taught me to look more closely at assumptions we make about animal intelligence and animal awareness.
  • RenaissanceWoman2010 Apr 1, 2011 @ 7:55 pm | delete
That's a powerful lesson – learning to examine and challenge our own assumptions. Thanks for sharing!

Wessie has taught me to really appreciate the sunshine, and also to be very forgiving. He might be angry about something you do, like giving a bath, but forgives you and doesn't hold a grudge. I think we can all learn from animals.
    *blessed*
  • RenaissanceWoman2010 Apr 1, 2011 @ 7:54 pm | delete
Forgiveness is one of those ultimate lessons and gifts. If only we could all learn to be more like Wessie. Your blessing is deeply appreciated!
  • debkrenaissance Mar 28, 2011 @ 3:57 pm | delete
