Reviewer:D. Griggs - See all my reviewsI've been using WBCL for a couple years now. I was initially concerned mostly with the health aspects for my cats, but it has turned out to be just as good for me.
For the Cats:
- Clay litters are dusty and reek of perfume. And if *I* think it's bad, I can't imagine their sensitive noses being 8 inches from the stuff.
- While I don't think corn is a good food for my cats (from cleaning their paws), it's at least better than clay.
For me:
- There is almost no dust with this litter. Amazingly little. I used to have to avert my face or cover it with my shirt while scooping. Added to the lack of perfume here, I can now scoop with no problems. And even more amazing, there's still no smell. Unless I've let the boxes go for too long (especially in summer), I don't smell anything. When you first pour it into the box it looks and smells like Grape Nuts cereal.
- It clumps nicely. No, it doesn't form those perfect solid rocks that clumping clay does, so you have to be more careful about them breaking up, but it does weigh a lot less. I don't feel like I'm doing as much heavy work.
- Less work. Not only is scooping easier, but I don't have to dump the pans out completely except for every couple of months. This sounds disgusting until you use the stuff. It's so good at what it does that you really need only scoop and add more once a week. The one thing that does get annoying once it's older is that the larger grains tend to go before the small ones. After a while, you're dealing with smaller particles that are more likely to get tracked around the house. When i start seeing dusty cat prints on the chairs, I know it's time to dump.
A note on cost. The stuff isn't cheap, but weighed against all its great qualities, I am happy (not just willing) to pay the price. And the volume is very good for the weight, as well. I've bought a 40lb bag of clumping clay (I bought some Cat Attract for a cat with some litterbox issues--it does work, btw) that lasted only half as long as the 34 lb bag of WBCL.
One last comment for the reviewer below whose cat didn't like it: cats are notorious for being picky. They don't deal with change well and have to be eased into anything new, whether it be litter or food or a new house. If your cat doesn't take to it right away, mix it with your old litter, gradually increasing the ratio, until your cat is fine with it. It will be worth the trouble.
