Kiva.org Microfinance - Help an Entrepreneur Escape Poverty by Starting a Business

Kiva.org allows individuals to make $25 loans to low-income entrepreneurs in the developing world (microfinance). By doing so, individuals like you provide affordable working capital for the poor (money to buy a sewing machine, livestock, etc.), empowering them to earn their way out of poverty.
It's a new, direct and sustainable way to fight global poverty, and the way I see it, I get a higher return on $25 helping someone build a future than the interest my checking account pays.

- I love Kiva! At work it's now my #1 source for gift certificates for birth of babies instead of flowers. Last Christmas I gave several friends and neighbors a gift certificate. What I like best about Kiva? 0% goes towards their administration. 100% goes straight to the people in need. Woohooo!!

- We've long supported children through World Vision and Compassion, International. I like this (Kiva)approach as well. As the saying goes, "give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime". Helping folks do for themselves also helps them maintain dignity. Thanks.

- I never heard of Kiva until I read about it on this lens a couple weeks ago. So, my husband and I have recently donated to this organization. This is an exciting idea. Great lens!
