Use $25 To Help- Over and Over Again
Kiva is a revolutionary new website that lets you make loans as little as $25 to people in developing countries who want to start or improve a small business. This is a concept called microlending. These entrepenures then pay back the loan and you can use that money again. Great, isn't it?
How Kiva Works
Kiva is a nonprofit organization based in SanFransico, California. However all of the borrowers featured on Kiva are from developing countries around the world. They do this by partnering with different Microfinance Institutions(MFIs) in those countries. The MFI's find borrowers to feature on Kiva, take their picture, and write up a discription of what the borrower will do with his or her loan. Now this is where you come in. You go to the kiva.org website and browse through different borrowers. Each borrower has a picture and loan discription on the site. When one catches your eye you click on the big green Lend Now button. You can loan anywhere from $25 to $650 on each loan.
From there you sign in or create an account if you're new and pay through paypal. Anyone with $25 and a paypal account can do it
The mircofinance institution in the borrower's area distributes the funds and they get invested in the borrower's business. The business grows, improving the entrepreneur and her families living conditions and allowing her to pay back the loan. At the end of the loan term you get the money back. Then you can start the whole process over again.
