Arthritis-Symptoms,Diagnosis,Treatment

One way to achieve joint pain relief is by applying heat.Rubbing ointments onto aching joints can be used alone or in addition to other treatments. For many people, natural arthritis remedy may work. For some acupuncture is an effective means of relieving pain.Arthritis is an inflammation of the joint, which is where two bones come together.

Causes Of Bone Fractures

Most people were introduced to the orthopedic surgeon at a young age when they were brought to the emergency room with their first broken bone. The first, and probably the most known cause for bone fractures is known as bone thinning or osteoporosis.

The 'fatigue theory' suggests that during repeated efforts (as in running), the muscles become unable to support the skeleton during impact as the foot strikes the ground. Instead of the muscles absorbing the shock, the load is transferred to the bone.Stress fractures are probably preceded by, causing bone pain and pain during exercise.

The first step in describing a fracture is whether it is open or closed. If the skin over the break is disrupted, then an open fracture exists.Setting of bone through surgery. When surgery is needed, the procedure is called an open reduction.Impacted Fracture: An impacted fracture is similar to a compression fracture, yet it occurs within the same bone.

It may take a number of weeks or months for a fracture to heal. Your bone tissue will start growing new bone cells on the site of the fracture, creating new bone tissues until the fracture is closed.

It is very important to maintain good bone health for a life free of pain and injury. Many older women still tend to neglect their bone health. They feel that it is too late to do anything once they reach middle age. There are several natural remedies to help improve bone health. Once such remedy is exercise. There are several dietary choices that a person can make to help build bone health. There are also foods that can deplete the bone tissue.Good bone health is essential for a good quality of life.

Arthritis is inflammation of one or more joints, which results in pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited movement.Arthritis involves the breakdown of cartilage. Cartilage normally protects the joint, allowing for smooth movement.

Often, the inflammation goes away after the injury has healed, the disease is treated, or the infection has been cleared. With some injuries and diseases, the inflammation does not go away or destruction results in long-term pain and deformity. When this happens, you have chronic arthritis.Arthritis can occur in men and women of all ages.

First, your doctor will take a detailed medical history to see if arthritis or another musculo skeletal problem is the likely cause of your symptoms.

Next, a thorough physical examination may show that fluid is collecting around the joint. This is called an "effusion.") The joint may be tender when it is gently pressed, and may be warm and red (especially in infectious arthritis and autoimmune arthritis). In some autoimmune forms of arthritis, the joints may become deformed if the disease is not treated.Tests vary depending on the suspected cause. They often include blood tests and joint x-rays.

Treatment of arthritis depends on the particular cause, which joints are affected, severity, and how the condition affects your daily activities. If possible, treatment will focus on eliminating the underlying cause of the arthritis.

It is possible to greatly improve your symptoms from osteoarthritis and other long-term types of arthritis without medications.Exercise for arthritis is necessary to maintain healthy joints, relieve stiffness, reduce pain and fatigue, and improve muscle and bone strength.

A physical therapist can apply heat and cold treatments as needed and fit you for splints or orthotic (straightening) devices to support and align joints.Rest is just as important as exercise.Avoid positions or movements that place extra stress on your affected joints.Avoid holding one position for too long.Reduce stress, which can aggravate your symptoms.Modify your home to make activities easier.

Taking glucosamine and chondroitin -- these form the building blocks of cartilage, the substance that lines joints. These supplements are available at health food stores or supermarkets.Eat a diet rich in vitamins and minerals, especially antioxidants like vitamin E. These are found in fruits and vegetables.Apply capsaicin cream (derived from hot chili peppers) to the skin over your painful joints.

Your doctor will choose from a variety of medications as needed. It is very important to take your medications as directed by your doctor.

In some cases, surgery to rebuild the joint (arthroplasty) or to replace the joint (such as a total knee joint replacement) may help maintain a more normal lifestyle.Normal joints contain a lubricant called synovial fluid. In joints with arthritis, this fluid is not produced in adequate amounts.A few arthritis-related disorders can be completely cured with treatment.
ALERT SIGNALS
Your joint pain persists beyond 3 days. You have severe unexplained joint pain. The affected joint is significantly swollen. You have a hard time moving the joint.Your skin around the joint is red or hot to the touch. You have a fever or have lost weight unintentionally. If arthritis is diagnosed and treated early, you can prevent joint damage.Osteoarthritis may be more likely to develop if you abuse your joints (injure them many times or over-use them while injured).Excess weight also increases the risk for developing osteoarthritis in the knees, and possibly in the hips and hands.

Arthritis

Arthritis (from Greek arthro-, joint + -itis, inflammation; plural: arthritides) is a group of conditions involving damage to the joints of the body.

There are over 100 different forms of arthritisWebMd Arthritis Basics. The most common form, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) is a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. Other arthritis forms are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and autoimmune diseases in which the body attacks itself. Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection. Gouty arthritis is caused by deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint, causing inflammation. There is also an uncommon form of gout caused by the formation of rhomboid crystals of calcium pyrophosphate. This gout is known as pseudogout.
