Kneeboarding first started in California in the 1960's and mainly came about due to surfers wanting to test their own boards decided to try being towed behind a speed boat. The first proper knee boards started to appear in the 1970's these boards are much heavier and have a flat bottom where as today they are made from similar materials to the modern surfboard and have shaped undersides for better performance. Today there is a whole sport of kneeboarding and competitors have runs where they do tricks such as barrel rolls and flips they are then marked on various aspects and just as with other types of these sports the winner is the one with the best scores after so many runs. There are many different tricks you can perform with your kneeboard some very similar to freestyle water skiing and new tricks are coming along all the time. The main reason for Kneeboarding becoming so popular is it is much easier to do than both water skiing and surfing as you do not have to stand up.
