The Art of Knitting Into the Stitch Below
I love the Knit-One-Below (K1B) technique. The book Knit One Below: One Stitch, Many Fabrics by Elise Duvekot is phenomenal, and I highly recommend reading it or even buying it. I have designed a couple of patterns that utilize this technique: The K1B Baby Hat uses a single color, allowing you to reduce pooling with a variegated yarn. The K1B Beer Cozy uses multiple colors in a checkered stripe pattern, a great way to mix remnant yarns.

Knit-One-Below (K1B) across a whole row
Knit-One-Below (K1B) is a knitting technique that allows you to create vertical stripes, mix up variegated yarns and more. To see free patterns using this technique, check out www.chemknits.com. Normally you wouldn't use this technique across an entire row, you would alternate K1B stitches with K stitches. I made this video to help illustrate the technique.

K1B Baby Hat
I found some beautiful cotton that had a great variegated color pattern. The only reason why I don't enjoy dealing with multicolored yarns is that you never know how the pooling of colors will occur. The K1B technique allows you to mix up the colors, and gives you a pseudo fair isle loo to your project.
