Knitting and Crocheting with wire isn't difficult - it is just different to working with yarn. In this lens will look at some hints and tips - as well as providing some information on good sources for further reading.

Hints and Tips for Knitting and Crocheting with Wire
- Work with thinner wires - between .2mm and .5mm (AWG 32 - 24)
- Remember that different countries measure wire in different ways - AWG = American Wire Gauge, SWG = Standard Wire Gauge or Metric (millimeters).
- When looking at the gauges of wire - the larger the number (AWG) the thinner the wire.
- Use old needles and hooks to work with. Don't use your best bamboo needles - working with wire can be quite hard work.
- If working with the thicker wires is too hard - try working with two strands of thinner wire.
- Craft wires or enameled wires are a great way to start working with wire. Start with these before moving onto precious metal wires such as silver and gold.
- Fine Silver (99.5% pure silver) is easier to work with than Sterling Silver (92.5% silver)
Get Started with Wire
Great items of jewelry can be made by knitting and crocheting with wire. A bangle or bracelet can easily be made using some .5mm wire and beads.Remember when working with beads to string the beads onto the wire first.
Colored wires can make some funky items of jewelry - silver for a more classic finish. Remember what ever wires you use to always use good quality, nikel free findings.
