Knitted Hobbit Toys

My four little hobbit toys based on the characters from JRR Tolkien's trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. These are my own original designs using knit and crochet. This first hobbit is the ringbearer, Frodo Baggins.

Something That No Real Lord of the Rings Fan Should Be Without

Samwise "Sam" Gamgee

The four hobbits from The Lord of the Rings are some of my very favourite movie characters. I just knew that they would make great toys. My entire family enjoys these movies and my kids really love the toy hobbits that I created for them. I have four children so they each got a hobbit of their own. Right now I am working on Bilbo Baggins, the other main hobbit from the movie and all I have left to do is sew the buttons onto his vest.

Peregrin "Pippin" Took

Each of these little hobbits are about eight inches tall, made of acrylic yarn and polyester fiberfill stuffing. They all have removable cloaks and three of them, Frodo, Sam, and Merry, all have vests. Pippin has a scarf to wear instead. The cloaks that they wear are based on the cloaks they were wearing when they left The Shire and not the cloaks that were given to them by the elves in Lothlorien.

Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck

I made Frodo with an embroidered chain and ring under his vest so that he could not lose the "One Ring". Each hobbit has curly hair on head and toes and the hoods of the cloak can be worn on the head or not. After I am finished with the final hobbit, Bilbo, I hope to make other characters from the movies as well.

Laura - the pattern that I used was from Jean Greenhowe. Her stuff is easy to find on the internet. I used her "basic body" but made a few adjustments. I made the feet go sideways instead of straight ahead and I crocheted the hair for them. Everything except the bodies are my original patterns.

Wow! I think that these hobbits are absolutely adorable. It would be really cool to have a complete collection of the characters. You should definitely make the rest of the "Fellowship".
