Find an inexpensive basket at discount stores or use a coupon at a place like Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Line it with tissue paper or colored plastic wrap and fill it with:

Another gift idea for the knitter is to find a particular pattern and buy enough yarn to make it. Choose an afghan or scarf and hat set which is listed as beginner, intermediate or advanced, whatever level your favorite knitter is at. Sometimes afghans take 6-8 skeins of yarn. If you want to splurge, get a truly delicious yarn like alpaca.

Patterns suggest the yarn weight to make it but if you don't know a lot about knitting, you might want to check with your local yarn shop or Joann's for guidance in choosing yarn and pattern.

Try to find out descreetly what level your favorite knitter is. Are they making mostly scarves and hats? Do they knit socks or lacy patterns? Be a detective and find out something about what they like to knit and what yarns they like to use.
