Let's have some knitting fun!

I love to knit and everything associated with it. I'll be highlighting fun ways to learn, great web resources for patterns, new books, articles, magazines, DVD's, accessories, knitblogs and just about anything fun I can dig up. Check here often and you won't be disappointed!

Been a while!

Looks like I have been having so much knitting fun, I've neglected this lens.

Check out my blog at: http://naturallycurly.blogspot.com to see what knitting fun I've been up to.

Be back soon with more stuff!

Fun Find Tuesday 7-30

Who doesn't love a sale?

The fabulous website KnitPicks is having a HUGE summer book sale here. The best part about KnitPicks book section is that they have sneak peeks, so you can look over a lot of the patterns before you decide what to buy.

Every book is 40% off for a limited time. Go here now and scoop up the books you've been wanting.

Spend $45 and shipping is free. No problem!
They have a great selection of yarn too.

Fun Fact - Tuesday July 24

Have you heard of Crafter's Choice?
It's like the book of the month club, except with craft books. I join every few years and I'll tell you why.
I wait until there are 4 or 5 craft books I really want and then I go over to their site, to see what they're offering.
The standard joining fee is 4 books for one dollar each and then you have to buy 2 additional books within a year. Even if those books aren't heavily discounted, you still come out ahead.
If you have 5 books you want, you can get the 5th book for half off, then you only need to buy one book.
It's a great deal and I've never had any problems cancelling when I've gotten what I needed. I just sign up for their email, so I check out their library and join when the time is right.

Fun Find, Monday 7-23

Found a great collection of FREE vintage patterns here at A Good Yarn.

Blogs are fun, too

Way back in 2002, I was part of the first wave of knitbloggers. Since then thousands of knitters and other fiber enthusiasts are blogging. It's a great way to see what other folks are doing.

They're also great reference tools. If I'm stuck on a pattern, I often try to find someone who's making the same thing and I've gotten great tips.

Here's a link to the main blog that coordinates the knitbloggers webring.

My blog, Someone Keeps Moving My Chair, is part of a few knitting webrings. Look on the right hand column and you'll see them. Pick one, click on "next" and you'll get taken to the next blog in the ring. Find the ring icon on that blog and click "next" and on and on. It's fun to take a ride on the webring. You'll never know what you'll find!

Learn the DVD Way

Sometimes learning knitting or crochet from a book isn't that easy.
With DVD's you can pause, rewind and watch how the stitches are made. It's like having your own private tutor-on-demand.
Check out The Art of Knittingwebsite for THE best knitting and crochet DVD's on the market today.
Their newest release "The Art of Knitting 4 Kids" is their best yet. Check out the promo and you'll see adorable Ryan Anderson, a 7-year-old knitting whiz, who teaches knitting. He's amazing!
Here is a great review by Sherri Osborn, from Family Crafts on About.com.

Sites to inspire you

My favorite site of the moment is the blog Craft magazine puts.

If you sign up at their site Craftzine, you'll get a daily email of all of their blog entries, complete with links.

It's not only knitting, but lots of other crafts to marvel at and give you some inspiration.

My friend Allison's eBay store

Go buy something! You need more yarn. You know you do.

Great deals of knitting and crafty stuff. Not only do you get good deals, but a portion of your purchase goes to help my friend Allison's expenses when her infant son has surgery on a brain tumor next month.

Yarn shopping!

First and foremost, I wholeheartedly endorse patronizing your LYS (local yarn shop). It's nice to have a place to go to and establish a relationship with the owner and folks who work there.

If you're travelling to a new city and want to find the best LYS, post a query online at the forums on Knitters Review.

You can also go to Woolworks, Sweater Babe or Daily Knitter for yarn shop directories.

I also like to buy yarn from small business owners online who spin and/or hand dye yarn. It's beautiful and one-of-a-kind and why not splurge on something unique once in a while.

Check out places like: Hello Yarn and Fun With Yarn.

When Michelle of Fun With Yarn sends out an advance notice of her sales, you've got to get there when it starts because I've seen the site literally sell out in minutes! It's amazing!

Another good tip is to sign up for newsletters at your LYS and you'll get notices of sales, many times before they're announced publicly. I do this with online shops, too. Even big crafty chains have great sales and when they offer free shipping, how can you pass it up?

If you have any other tips, let me know and I'll put them here.
