What is the true purpose of Christmas ?
Ranked #7,308 in Culture & Society, #150,841 overall
It's A reminder
A couple years back I realized that Christmas had nothing to do with Santa though he has been coming to my home for years and years eating my cookies this santa with his bag helped make Christmas become ALL about shopping on a list even if you have no money just put it on credit and don't leave home without it and somewhere between all that I lost the real meaning behind Christmas.
I did some soul searching and my soul told me either that I needed to go deeper or stay crazy wondering how am I going to shop this year without a credit card !?? and I decided to go deeper and it's been a journey.. here is a couple things I found which gave me back my love for Christmas.. it's nice getting a gift or giving a gift but Christmas is a reminder to go deeper .
Knock!
what did he say ??
" Ask, and it shall be given you Seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened...Luke11:9
..Then said Jesus If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free... John 8:31-32
Going Deeper

Gather together your scriptures or parables that Jesus supposed to have said that you have heard as a child or read as a adult that you like , and decide which ones to use on your personal investigation (no more than 20) pick your bits and pieces that you remember put them all on printer paper or write them down by hand.. next fold this paper in half the long way and keep it in your holy book that you are using
Use your list to keep you focus on your bits and pieces that you picked on purpose to get more understanding about them and use the blank side to write notes and write words to look up in the dictionary as you go .. start by finding the pieces you picked and don't be afraid to dog-ear pages to go back for later reading and also underline in pencil things you like but most important leave this book you picked with a long piece of paper inside (waiting ) leave it around where you will see it everyday all year round as a reminder to go deeper.. By Christmas time we have let the world take us away to the point we have forgotten what is essential to us about Christmas .
I used to get very intimated by the bible it all sounded like riddles to me until I picked the few scriptures I remembered as a child and over the years as a adult and studied them and I found out we do not need to understand the whole book just take the pieces you pick and go deeper with these and let it grow .
Born Again

#1. You have heard where Christ said, "Endure unto the end and you shall be saved." Be willing to endure the onslaughts of false beliefs as they rise up in protest against your decision to live in the here and now. Go to the very end of them and you will find eternal life.
#2. "My yoke is easy, my burden is light." VH commented on this today, saying how the spiritual life and a mind guided by heaven is free-flowing, easy and always enjoyable.
#3. Christ said, "What I do, you also can do." He wasn't talking about healing the lame and raising the dead. People always think that doing what Christ did means doing these things so that the world marvels at them. It means being in the same state that Christ lived in. This you can do!
#4. If you die to everything false IN YOU, you will be born again. Then you will know exactly what Christ meant when he said, "I can of myself do nothing, but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."
#5. "Lo, I am with you always." This is a fact from the New Testament that you will know. No matter what happens to you, no matter where you are or what you are doing, you can turn immediately to this statement and know it is a fact. You can do more than know the words, you can live it. "Lo, I am with you always."
Parting of the Red Sea

#6 Think of the "parting of the Red Sea" given in the Bible. True salvation is to be right in the middle of the Red Sea, knowing there is nothing you can do, and letting the Spirit of Truth suddenly break through. You ALLOW Intelligence enter the confusion.
#7 VH gave a special exercise tonight. He said that it is a quote from a sacred book that sums up everything we must do. That quote is: THY WILL BE DONE. Work with this, VH continued. Let it become your overall, dominating desire. No matter what situation you are in, want the spiritual Will to be your own.
#8 In the Bible it says, "Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it." If you collapse to the old, the new will be constructed in its place.
#9 Christ made a marvelous statement, so penetrating and so insightful, as all true statements are. Christ said, "He who has hears to him, let him hear." Now what Christ was speaking of is spiritual hearing. We must develop our spiritual hearing. Christ understood the Higher World. He knew that you must be willing to HEAR spiritual power as it comes to you.
#10 Love the Creator, not the creation. God created the house. He caused the trees to grow. God, the Creator, is Eternal. You use the creation and it is right that you do. But love the Creator, the Eternal -- not the creation.

The woman at the well

Jesus would go from town to town teaching.. and the water wells was a good place where women would come everyday for water and he would talk to them about his father not in the sky but the kingdom of God is WITHIN he said to anyone who would listen to him.. these women would take him home and feed him with food and Jesus would feed them with his words he loved women and had alot of women followers and many men of course because Jesus respected them both..
Many men and women are inspired by Jesus ..World wide
these are only a few
Joyce Meyer
The Everyday Life Bible: The Power of God's Word for Everyday Living
Amazon Price: $18.74 (as of 06/01/2012)![]()
I love Joyce Meyer I think she knows Jesus well I do love to listen to her as she explains things from the bible to help us understand also, and she talks about letting Jesus teachings help us with inner change she says it's all about inner change but she also says without our own effort we can't change it's all about our own effort.
Take whatever bible you have at home and use it for your investigation but as you can see Jesus inspired many all over the world the bible is not the only book that has Jesus teachings like I thought .. Leo Tolstoy wrote a book called 'the kingdom of heaven is within' and Dalai Lama with ' The Good Heart: A Buddhist Perspective on the Teachings of Jesus also Paramahansa Yogananda The Yoga of Jesus: Understanding the Hidden Teachings of the Gospels ..it's good to get help as long as we put effort on the work
The Charles F. Stanley
The Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible
Amazon Price: $21.96 (as of 06/01/2012)![]()
Perspectives, interpretations by others that are reading looking for answers and growing can help us there is no doubt about this but doing our own work getting our own interpretation from the bible brings it to a higher level of understanding so find the bible you have in your home and dig in !

How Possible?
..'And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
This could not have ever happen!!!No way did Jesus say those words before he died not possible 'I don't doubt that Jesus went through trials and tribulations and was murdered for his teachings but at the end he did not question God no way ! instead he understood why they were killing him and he said 'father forgive them for they know not what they do' ..But what do you say ?
Did Jesus question God at His 'end' ?

No Way!
Jimmie says:
He was saying, look at Psalm 22 (that is the beginning of Ps. 22) and see how I fulfill all the Messianic prophecies.
eccles1 says:
Going to church is a personal choice and we can go everyday but if we are not reading from a holy book we stay the same it's the reading that helps us to grow
RobertL says:
Our Savior did not doubt God, but he was tempted to disobey the Father, the struggle became so intense that his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luk 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
JessicaT2008 says:
Yes and no (thats why I'm putting my answer on both). He wasn't questioning God, but in fact was asking God "Why". Jesus was so covered in sin, that God could not look at him. He had to turn his back on him. LaraineRose said it best, this had to happen to fulfill scripture. You know how you were always taught that Christ suffered like us? Well, here ya go...
I read a book by Joni Erickson Tada that explains it best: "When God Weeps: Why Our Sufferings Matter To The Almighty" Its an awesome book that definitely should be read!
eccles1 says:
lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:20
He said always not sometimes!!:)
Yes Way!!
faithlands says:
Jesus certainly said these words, and they are of course the words from Psalm 22. His Father did temporarily forsake Him, which was necessary because at the crucifixion Jesus "became sin," as the Apostle Paul pointed out in 2Corinthians 5:21. As to whether or not Jesus questioned God, this can be misleading. He did question God, but did as one who at that moment was separated from His Father for the first and only time in all eternity. He had become a curse (on our behalf!), and suffered the judgement of the Father against sin. Remember how much Job questioned God? And yet the scripture records that in all this questioning "Job did not sin nor did he blame God." There is a questioning that comes from a bitter heart that is really rejecting God, but there is a questioning that comes from honesty as we go through excruciating trials, and yet remains loyal to God. Jesus was tempted in all things like us (Hebrews 2:17,18), and can now come to our aid in whatever difficulty we face. He's been there. God is not threatened by our honest questioning, and it is not sin if our hearts remain loyal to Him.
says:
I believe that Christ did pose the question, but it is not reflecetive of doubt. Christ became our scapegoat of sin and God have to turn away. That allowed Christ to experience what we naturally do - being separated from God and thus complete His "human experience".

I believe he did say those words. It didn't make him less holy, but more admirable, because while he was the Son of God, he was still trapped in human flesh. Jesus wasn't just going through the motions, He felt all the horror and trauma...for us. Those words prove just how painful it was, physically and mentally.
allinfoisfree says:
Jusus overcame all things, so God had to leave him for a moment so he could accomplish his mission. He felt our pain. Jesus was forsaken for us. This is something we will never know, even though we think we are forsaken at times. He never forsakes us.
