Knots to Help You

Outdoors the ability to tie things together may save your life. Well, at least keep you dry if you have a tarp. Knot tying is a pretty handy skill at the campground or in the backyard.

This lens contains a few basic knots I think you need to know. I've learned dozens and show them off to friends in the basement all the time - not! I have listed a few of the really useful ones for campground warriors. Learn the basics first and you too could entertain.

This is purposely a very small lens, focusing on knot basics to help get you tied up in knots.

With the internet, we can now watch the video and not be confused by those confounded books with diabolical diagrams. Here are the basic knots I feel that you should know and will find the most useful.

Help staying out of the elements

Here are some videos of useful knots to secure your tarp. It's good to know two or three basic knots to make life easier around camp. The first and second videos are very good! The knots are well demonstrated and it's easy to follow. You'll find many of the knots mentioned in the videos above.

Fishing Knots on YouTube

Video to the Rescue!

If you can tie a hook onto the line, crimp a sinker and clip on a bobber, you'll be ready to go fishing. All you have to do is put the bait on the hook. These are the basic knots to get you fishing. If you are going to learn only one knot, I'd suggest the uni-knot.

This brought back memories of when I was a summer camp counselor. We had to learn a handful of knots for when we used to take the kids of the climbing wall. I had no clue there were so many different kinds depending on what type of activity you are doing.

Thank you for your great work. Being in Search and Rescue, I need all the knot-tying help I can get. If I don't practice, I tend to forget, and we need to be able to use this skill quickly in the field. So I'll be coming back to your lens with my piece of rope in hand.
