Flooring Materials
Like any industry wherein innovations and fresh ideas are the requisites for success, the interior design industry has adopted a lot of new flooring options over the last few years. Not only were new materials put to good use, the design philosophy has come a long way too. This is highly evident in the way we see tiles in other rooms aside from the kitchen and bathroom or the increasing popularity of exotic materials like bamboo as wood substitutes. The myriad of flooring materials available today should spark anyone's creativity when they finally decide that their home needs a little freshening up.
The choices open to you is partly dependent on the room's intended choice. Unlike purely decorative design decisions, your floor has to be safe and practical on top of looking nice. You would not carpet the bathroom nor kitchen would you? Materials are suited to some conditions while being totally wrong in others. This is just a natural limitation and is present in stone, wood, carpet, or tile.
Also consider the amount of foot traffic that a floor will be subjected to. Hallways are going to be experiencing a lot more abuse than any other part of the floor. Your kids' rooms need to be quite stain-resistant if you plan on having it last until they grow up. Your choice of flooring materials will also determine their comfort and safety. Also, the furniture that you will put in a room will have a huge impact on the floor. It is a shame to bury a nice area rug beneath a two-door fridge or a large sofa, so you have to plan accordingly.

You should base your choice of floor type on the overall theme of the room. Take a few moments to match walls, ceilings, drapes, and the major furniture. Whatever flooring ideas you have in your head, you have to visualize how it will play with the existing décor.
If you need more help in unlocking your creative side, it is a nice idea to photograph the room and take it with you when you shop around. Knowledgeable salespeople should be able to help you decide on the best course of action. This is best the time to lay out your budget and state your plans. It is a waste of time to plan for something elaborate with only a few dollars' worth of funds. You will end up frustrated if you can't finish the project - or worse, end up in debt because you insisted on going through with it.

The Floor Maintenance
The care and maintenance of floor is also a big part of their appeal. Some require a lot of effort to keep on looking good while others can be left alone. Wooden floors need regular waxing while carpet requires vacuuming at least once a week. If you are constantly on the go, it is best to go with stone or ceramic tile. Only you can say how much time you can devote to keeping your floor looking great and you should discuss this with your interior decorator. Failing to consider the upkeep of a floor often leads to a lot of frustrations. Latest Flooring Options Blogs
