KnowHR grew out of a couple simple ideas - pay decisions are abdicated and turnover is backbreaking. Here's what we talked about:
  • The peanut butter approach to pay. Thousands of managers spend tens of thousands of hours each year working on merit budgets and increases. To what end? Great performers get 3.1 percent increases while spotty performers get 2.9 percent increases. And nobody's happy. That's what we call the peanut butter approach to pay increases. Smear pay increases evenly across everyone. It's the easy way out for managers. But it is also what drives top performers to take the easy way out… out the door.
  • Why'd they go? You gotta know. Your most valuable assets walk out the door every night. And every day, some of them don't come back. Which means your revolving door keeps spinning: recruit-train-say goodbye, recruit-train-say goodbye. You need to know why your people are leaving. You need to know it now. And it's gotta be easy.

So, we worked on a set of simple fixes. Simple online tools. Tools that model. Tools that measure. Tools that analyze. Tools that communicate. Designed to be so simple that the excuse Our managers can't do that is obsolete. As we say: People are complicated. Your HR tools shouldn't be.
