Roos and Koalas Make Wonderful Gifts

Two Australian marsupials (mammals with a pouch) are popular all over the world and have fascinated us for a long time. One is the kangaroo, the national symbol of Australia. The other is the koala, usually referred to as a koala bear, but it isn't really a bear at all. Eighteenth century settlers first called it koala bear because it has a similarity in appearance to bears.

2Kangaroos can hop up to 40 miles per hour and go over 30 feet in one hop.
3When standing, roos often use their muscular tail as an extra leg.

Oh, elf you have done such a great job here. Love the descriptions and pics and the wonderful craft these animals have inspired. Would you believe that I have never hugged a koala although I think I might have held one when I was about 3 and my uncle brought it into the house, My memory of it was of being scratched. Tow of my all time favorite animals! These are all adorable little kangaroos and koalas! The little kangaroo brings back so many great memories. When our daughter was very young, we gave her a Momma kangaroo with a baby in her pouch (plush, of course) She grabbed the little baby and set the momma aside. Do you know she took that baby everywhere for at least a year. Bed, bath, grandmothers, kindergarten class, etc. Wherever she went, so did her joey.
