KREMASTI IS RHODES' UNSPOILED, 'REAL' VILLAGE
< view of Kremati from the cross at Filerimos
On the northwestern corner of the island of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese islands off the coast of Turkey, lies the village of Kremasti.
Kremasti doesn't have the best beach, much in the way of ancient monuments (except a derelict Venetian fortification) or much in the way of nightclubs.
What it does have though is character. The proper character of a working 'real' village, where 'real' people live, work and play.
If you seek something authentic then Kremasti is the place for you.
The beach is a haven for kite-surfers and this should tell you that the sea can be rough and the wind strong. It's not a bad beach, although somewhat shingly in among the sand, which is coarse.
Tassos has a fine little cafe on the beach and will also rent you a sun lounger with his inimitable cheery smile.
At Zorba's restaurant you'll find great meat cooked freshly for you before your very eyes and good service. At many other establishments the quality is also excellent. There's a fine selection of eateries and a few bars, plus a wide choice of shops but little in the the way of tourist junk.
Kremasti is a 'proper' place not a resort. Enjoy!
ACCOMMODATION IN KREMASTI
WHERE TO STAY
- Anseli Hotel, Kremasti
- Anseli Hotel is located in a quiet residential area between the village and the beach. I've stayed here and would recommend it highly for the warmth of its welcome and the people who own and run it.
