Kristin Kreuk in Edgemont

Kristin Kreuk started her acting career on Edgemont.

Edgemont is a Canadian teen soap show that was 30 minutes long and was shot entirely in Kristin's hometown of Vancouver, Canada. The show ran for 5 seasons.

Kristin landed this job after her high school Drama teacher suggested she audition for it. During the run of Edgemont Kristin landed Smallville. While watching the show you can see her grow as an actress as well as make a pretty good guess at which time she landed the role of Lana Lang on Smallville.

Kristin plays a character named Laurel Yeung. A new student at Edgemont High. Throughout the show she starts as one of the ensemble's main characters and continues to be one until the show's conclusion.

Laurel and Mark

Laurel's relationship with Mark Deosdade is one of the show's biggest relationships. Laurel and Mark do not start out together, but rather seem to accidentally drift each other's way. One of Mark's friends, Scott, has a crush on her and asks for Mark's help. After Laurel makes it clear she's not interested Mark ends up falling for her.

Their relationship goes up and down throughout the entire show's run. These two characters may have disagreements and fights, but at the end of the day the both need each other. A memorable moment comes in an episode called "Two Minutes To Midnight" where Laurel is deciding if she should go to Japan to be a model, a commitment that would take her away from Mark for at least 6 months. They really come together in this moment and try to work out whatever is necessary to not lose the other.

Other all the relationships on Edgemont, the show seems held together by this one. A great testament to how much the producers of the show believed in Kristin and her abilities as an actress even as she was still learning and perfecting her craft.

Laurel and Anika

Anika Nedeau is the character thrown into the mix to stir up trouble. Anika, and her friend Erin Woodbridge, are responsible for spreading a lot of the rumors at Edgemont that always create and cause trouble. While no one really takes either of them seriously their rumors often have a grain of truth in them. As the rumor spreading team it was inevidable Laurel would somehow get caught in one or two over the show's run.

On their first meeting Anika was not too fond of Laurel. She saw her as stuck up, rather than trying to fit in and make friends. Anika starts a rumor about Laurel that gets around school. Laurel would eventually confront Anika about this.

Laurel never really trusts Anika and since that first incident stays out of her way when she can. Even by the show's conclusion the first rift and rumor started by Anika about Laurel is never really patched up. Laurel decides to remove herself from the situation than deal with her more possibly escalating it.

Laurel and Shannon

Shannon Ng is a character very much going through her own thing. She, like Jennifer MacMahon, is a friend Laurel makes early on at Edgemont.

Their relationship is most tested when a mystery poem is written about possibly being gay. As the characters put the pieces together themselves Laurel is most worried about Shannon, who seems to be doing things out-of-character a lot recently. When the true issue comes out Shannon at first rejects Laurel and her intent to help her with whatever she needs. It takes them awhile to work things out but as in high school, one big issue one week is not a big issue the next week and the event passes.

Shannon Ng is played by a, now, well known actress named Grace Park.

Laurel and Jennifer

Jennifer MacMahon and Mark have known each other forever. To make a good comparison they were the Dawson and Joey of Edgemont. There are times when Mark and Jen are boyfriend and girlfriend as well.

Laurel's pressence makes this a strained relationship for Mark at first because he loves Jen but is falling in love with Laurel. Laurel does not appreciate being apart of Mark's affections while this is going on since he and Jen are dating. She continues to insist he work it out and will have no part of it until he finds out what he wants and should do. While a very smart decision for Laurel she can't seem to fully remove herself from this no matter how hard she tries. This, in turn, makes things tense between herself and Jen.

Jen and Laurel eventually become great friends, but it's not until this issue is resolved and Mark, the boy between them, decides who and what he wants.

Laurel and Maggie

Maggie Buckman works at a local coffee shop that the characters often frequent. She's much older than the core characters and out of school herself.

For Laurel Maggie often helps as a guide to lead her in the right direction and help her make some difficult decisions. With her experience behind her she becomes a close friend to Laurel and more than just the guide role she started as.

Laurel and Maggie eventually become roommates. Their relationship is solid until Mark is thrown in as a wild card. This is probably the toughest time between Maggie and Laurel, particularly when Maggie decides she'd like Mark better as a roommate. Laurel, feels betrayed and again does all she can to get out of the situation as fast as she can.

Maggie Buckman is played by Chiara Zanni, who now is starring in her own show on The N called About A Girl.

How Do I Get Edgemont?

Edgemont can be a tough show to find. Fans of actors on the show like Daniella Evangista and Grace Park, as well as the obvious, Kristin Kreuk, will want to get their hands on this series for their collections.

I suggest you go straight to the source, the Edgemont Official Site. There, email someone about receiving it. Follow their directions from there.

Edgemont is a great show entirely on its own, tackling more serious issues of high school life. One of the great things about it is being able to watch the cast improve their acting skills. Kristin's ability alone jumps in leaps and bounds in Edgemont. It's really fun and exciting to watch her grow as an actress throughout its entire run.
