Pros & Cons of the Krups BeerTender B95
However, if you would like to drink other beers in 5-litre mini-kegs, you will be disappointed, as you cannot adapt the BeerTender to other mini-kegs. But before you say 'no way', there are a couple of things to consider.
- Can you even get other 5-litre mini-kegs? Some specialty beer stores sell them, but the truth is, they can be very hard to find. Whereas, Heineken 5-Litre DraughtKegs are sold in most stores that sell beer. There are some online beer stores that sell a few other 5-litre mini-kegs, but not all states allow alcohol to be shipped to them (only 20+ states allow shipping of alcohol to consumers).
- How much of the micro-brewery 5-litre kegs would you actually drink? Would a mini-keg draught beer dispenser even be worth it? Or does it make more sense to stick with bottled beer from the micro-breweries, where you have a much greater variety to choose from?
You really need to look at your beer preferences (or the recipient's, if it's a gift). Most people tend to mainly drink one brand of beer, with a six-pack here or there of other beers. If Heineken is the brand of choice - like it is for thousands of other beer lovers out there - then you'll love the Krups BeerTender B95!
Other Home Beer Dispensers
This is a 5-litre mini-kegerator that has an optional external carbonation system (the Heineken DraughtKeg has this system inside each mini-keg) that has been getting some rave reviews.
If you can get other types of 5-liter mini-kegs besides Heineken in your area, this may be a home beer dispenser worth looking into. It can still chill and dispense the Heineken DraughtKegs (just don't use the external carbonation system).
But since there is a separate carbonation system which must be maintained and tubes to clean, it does require more maintenance than the beertender (the beertender is pretty much plug-and-chug, so to speak.)
