Why Sparring?
Learning forms and practising isolated techniques in pre-set attack defense sets is of course is how you learn the fundamental principles behind your style of kung fu, and gain in depth understanding of the mechanics involved in each technique, but when you are doing this you are training in a manner that is vey far removed from the kind of situation in which you might have to use them for street self defense to protect yourself or your family or friends. Real life is much more chaotic and messy than this kind of training can prepare you for, and sparring is the ideal way to pracxticing the application of your earlier training in a realistic situation, without the risk of getting hurt.
As I already said, it is also great fun to test yourself against your friends and get the adrenaline flowing in one on one combat. It is also good fun to watch, which is why I picked out my favourite kung fu sparring videos from youtube to feature here for you. Please vote for your favourite, and add new one to if you like!
